It takes 800 Engineers To Get Apple’s iPhone Camera To Click

The release of Apple’s iPhone 6s including quite a few upgrades to the device’s cameras, and part of the reason behind that was revealed during a recent interview with 60 Minutes’ Charlie Rose.

Due to the fact that the camera is the most-used feature of any Apple product, and the fierce competition in the mobile market, Apple has no less than 800 “engineers and other specialists dedicated solely to the camera”.

Think that’s a large number? Wait until you hear how many operations take place to capture a single photo.

Facebook rolling out Live Photos support for its iOS app

Back in September, Apple introduced the world to Live Photos, a new feature supported by its iPhone 6s and 6s Plus smartphones that capture 1.5 seconds video and audio both before and after a full-resolution still image is snapped.

Now, Apple wasn’t the first company to release a feature like this – not by a longshot – but with Apple’s ubiquity and comparatively un-fragmented platform, it’s easy to see why a company like Facebook is working on implementing Live Photos support in its iOS app.

Check Out Some Of The First 4K Ultra HD Footage Shot On The iPhone 6s Plus

The filmmakers over at RYOT have just released a short mini-documentary that was shot entirely on the iPhone 6s Plus, which is some of the first footage we’re seeing made with Apple’s latest smartphone model. David Darg & Bryn Mooser, the filmmakers from RYOT, took their 6s Plus to Haiti, where they made a vibrant film about an inspiring Haitian gentleman.

The iPhone 6s Plus features a 12MP camera, capable of shooting in 4k, which also marks the first time an iPhone has seen a megapixel boost since 2011.[Read More…]

iPhone 6s accidently delivered early; see how the camera performs

A lucky woman from San Diego received her iPhone 6s almost five days before the official launch date, possibly making her the first person in the world to get it.

Visual designer Adrienne Alpern was pleasantly surprised by the early delivery and shared some photos and 4K video for the rest of us to see how the new camera performs.

Rumors have been stating that the iPhone 7’s camera might offer DSLR-like performance, and they gained momentum a couple of months ago when Apple purchased LinX, an Israeli camera-tech company focusing on computational imaging.

While we have yet to have seen any solid evidence that DSLR owners will soon be able to stop lugging their cameras around, code found in the developer’s Beta version of iOS 9 reveals that quite a lot of work has been focused on improving the device’s front-facing camera.
