There is now a permanent photography exhibition in space

Normally when we hear about photography on the space station, it’s photographs made there. It’s scenes looking back at earth through the windows of Cupola, the ISS observatory. Incredible views of the earth, stars, auroras, or crazy timelapse. This time, though, it’s not photos coming to the earth from the ISS. They’re going to the ISS from earth.

Playing host to its first photography exhibition, the ISS now houses five images from Indian photographer Dr. Hersh Chadha. Printed on vibrachrome by Duggal Visual Solutions, these five photographs are intended to reconnect the astronauts with the Earth.

Look deep into the Milky Way from the ISS with the help of NASA

No matter how much amazing imagery NASA throw at us, they always seem to wow us with new and amazing photographs on a regular basis.

Shot on a wide lens mounted on the International Space Station, this image lets us look deep into the milky way while making a pass over the Republic of Kirbati, a tiny island nation in the Pacific Ocean with a population of only around 100,000 people.

When it comes to giving us amazing views of the earth and space, few do it better than NASA, and this one’s going to take some effort to beat.

NASA seem to have well and truly boarded and taken residence on the 4K bandwagon, and with footage like this, it’s easy to see why.

Star trails have become a very popular photography subject, especially with the high ISO performance offered by some cameras over the last few years, but few will have the opportunity of creating them from such unimpeded views as the International Space Station.

Don Pettit is one of those few, stacking short exposures of the stars to produce some amazing star trail images, which also include the earth.

The International Space Station as Captured with the Nikon P900’s Monster Zoom

Shortly after its announcement I read a review of the Nikon P900 super-zoom bridge camera, where the author excitedly said it can be used to shoot objects as far as ten miles away.

Judging by this photo of the International Space Station, captured by Naftali Maimon, I’m happy to say the P900’s 83x 2000mm-equivalent zoom is also capable of snapping photos of objects 250 miles away.

That’s right, this photo was captured with a $597 bridge camera!

Scott Kelly Is The American Astronaut Living The Most Time In Space And He Shoots Amazing Images Of Earth

Have you ever seen the Sahara desert from space? Chances are you already have, but never as spectacular as in the amazing images Astronaut Scott Kelly has been posting to his Instagram and Twitter feeds directly from the International Space Station.

Last Friday, October 16, 2015, Kelly broke the record for the longest cumulative time for an American Astronaut living in space – 383 days, and he’s sharing his incredible views with us. This photo of the Saharan desert, for example, is simply breathtaking:

ISS Uses Still Camera and 800mm Lens to Demonstrate Acceleration Through Space

In recent years we’ve become more familiar with the International Space Station (ISS) through live video feeds, experiment demonstrations, and fantastic images that have been brought back to earth.  (Then again, maybe it’s all just thrown together on some Hollywood sound stage…who knows.)  But, to the best of my knowledge, we have never before seen a camera used to demonstrate acceleration in space.

In this video, Commander Jeff Williams used a Nikon camera and 800mm lens to demonstrate the basic physics involved with moving through the cosmos.

Awesome Photo of the International Space Station Over a Full Moon

Moving at 27,600 km/h the International Space Station orbits Earth every 90 minutes or so, making it relatively easy to spot the spacecraft.

Dedicated websites and apps make visible passes incredibly easy to view, but seeing the ISS cross the moon is a whole nother story; let alone a full moon.

In the case of Australian amateur photographer Dylan O’Donnell he had to wait 12 months to finally get a 0.33 second long window to capture this image. Obviously he nailed it.

How high must your shutter speed be in order to photograph an object traveling at 17,500 mph while crossing another object moving at 2,288 mph? Not very high actually, when the nearest of the two objects is over 200 miles away and the other is over 225,000 miles away. However, you must be prepared well in advance and ready for the action as you will have less than one second to get your shot!

Gadi Eidelheit of Venus Transit did just this when he captured some rather rare footage of the International Space Station crossing in front of the moon.
