The ultimate selfie machine: a 14ft interactive head displaying photos taken inside of it

Artist Matthew Mohr has created an interesting and unique piece of art. His project titled As We Are features a 14-foot 3D interactive human head. It was assembled from a skeleton covered with ribbons of LED screens. In its neck, there’s a photo booth where the visitors can capture 3D photos of themselves. Once they do it, the giant head displays their face, turning them into a statue.

Since the interactive head combines technology, interaction, and art, it’s also called “the ultimate selfie machine.” However, its purpose is more than just taking a selfie. It serves to amuse people, but also to evoke some discussions and consider how the idea of self-representation has evolved.

Tiny vibrations bring still photos to life in dynamic interactive images

A photograph is, by its very nature, a still image. Good ones perform their task very well. As technology has evolved the lines between photo and video have started to become a little blurred. We’ve got live photos, Instagram supports video, and now wants to be SnapChat.

Then we have augmented reality. The combination of computer generated data and real world imagery in real time.

The big problem with augmented reality is that the two don’t really mix together too fluidly yet. MIT PhD student Abe Davis has figured out a possible way to solve this problem. It’s a process he calls Interactive Dynamic Video. It uses tiny vibrations picked up in video to simulate real world movement in still images.

Largest Gigapixel Taken in Dubai Released in Celebration of Dubai360’s 1 Year Anniversary

This time last year we wrote about the mind-blowing 8-terapixel 360-degree interactive virtual tour of Dubai, simply called Dubai360.

Celebrating the 1 year anniversary of the incredible project, Gerald Donovan has updated his famous Burj Khalifa pinnacle shot. The new image, and largest ever taken in Dubai, is 45 gigapixels in size and offers improved visibility.

Facebook to Support Spherical Interactive Video in News Feed

These 360-degree interactive videos are shot with up to 24 cameras at a time, allowing the viewer to change the point of view in any direction. It is much like Google Street View, except you can look up or down as well, and you do so while the video keeps playing.

The immersive videos will also be available on the Oculus Rift 3D goggles headset, made by Facebook’s recent acquisition, Oculus VR.

Despite Virtual Reality being associated mainly with gaming, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said he expects VR video to be more engaging.
