With drones becoming more difficult or impossible to fly in a lot of locations around the world without expensive permits and hassle, finding ways to create drone-like shots without the use of an actual drone can be a fun challenge. We’ve seen the basic fake drone shots using a small camera and gimbal on the end of a long pole plenty of times by now, but this technique from Luke Edwin looks pretty cool.

In the video, Luke walks us through how he uses the Insta360 ONE X2 – although, the principle should work with pretty much any 360° action camera – to film and create a sequence that looks like it was shot by a nimble FPV drone. It’s a very cool effect and at first glance, very convincing!

360° cameras have come far in the last couple of years. I remember trying out the first version of the Ricoh Theta and thinking that it was a cool idea, but the quality and feature set just wasn’t there. When the YI 360 VR was released, offering 5.7K resolution, I felt they were finally starting to hit that point. But the tech that goes into 360° cameras has come much further since then.

But what are the top consumer picks when it comes to 360° cameras? In this video, Daniel The 360 Guy shows us his top five 360° cameras that you can get today. Daniel points out the good, the bad and the “ok” for each of the cameras. Possibly not surprisingly, there isn’t really a single “best” camera that’s good for all uses, but each has its own advantages and disadvantages over the others for different needs.

Two of the biggest complaints about small cameras like action and 360° cameras are their audio and fairly bland colours. The audio is often just the nature of built-in microphones, but the colours is often a function of maximising dynamic range in the source file.

To avoid us having to run our footage through yet another 3rd party app to fix them, Insta360 has developed True Audio and Color Plus features for their mobile apps and desktop editing software for the Insta360 ONE X (currently on sale for Black Friday) and the Insta360 GO to specifically address these issues.

The pace at which some technologies are developing today is just amazing. One area that’s seen particularly rapid progress over the last few years is 360° cameras. But I’ve often felt that the technology still wasn’t quite there – at least when it came to the 360° cameras that fit in our pockets.

The YI 360 VR was close (at the time), but I always thought they could offer just a bit more. Now, I think all that’s changed with the Insta360 ONE X. I’ve been using one for the past few weeks, and it has absolutely blown me away.

This has felt like a very long wait for Insta360 ONE X camera owners who’ve thus far had to deal with the mobile apps if they want to get the most out of their camera’s footage. But now, Insta360 Studio for ONE X is finally here, with all of the FreeCapture keyframe goodness that older Insta360 Studio version users have long enjoyed.

Insta360 has a reputation for producing some pretty fantastic 360 cameras. The Nano S for iPhones has proven to be particularly popular. But it left Android users asking “What about us?”. So along came the Insta360 ONE, which works with both iOS and Android. Today, though, Insta360 has announced the new Insta360 ONE X.

The new Insta360 ONE X bumps up the 4K resolution of its predecessor to 5.7K and adds new FlowState Stabilisation for smooth, rock-steady footage. It also offers 4K 360 video at up to 50 frames per second, and 3K at 100 frames per second.
