Only 48 hours after launch, Holga’s new Holga Printer Kickstarter has been fully funded. Now it sits just shy of 4x its original HK$150,000 (~US$19K) goal at HK$561,342 (~US$72K). Holga has held a special place in many photographers hearts since the 80s, and they’ve even dabbled in digital. Now they’re hoping to help bring smartphone photographers into the fold with a new analogue/digital hybrid printer that lets you print your smartphone photos onto Fuji Instax film.

Holga Goes Digital Thanks To A Raspberry Pi And Pete Taylor’s Awesome DIY ASCII Art Hack
Pete Taylor’s Holga isn’t your ordinary Holga. It isn’t even your ordinary hacked Holga. In fact, you might say that Taylor’s Holga is one of the most unusual modifications you’ve seen done to one of the notoriously hacakble cameras. It started out innocently enough…
Taylor gutted an old, broken Holga to make room inside for a Raspberry Pi, which effectively turned the once medium format film camera into a digital model. To do this, he had to remove not just the guts of the Holga, but also the lens to accommodate the built-in lens on the Raspberry Pi’s computer board. He then added a wireless USB adapter. This allows him to have his 120d automatically upload the photos he takes to his blog. He also added a 49mm adapter on the lens to accept various filters, in addition to a 3.5mm camera trigger socket, a LED indicator which glows in the viewfinder when a photo is being taken, and a rotary switch that allows him to choose between photo, video, or program mode. It’s unarguably a pretty legit hack.[Read More…]
The Pinolga – A Beautiful DIY Cardboard Holga-Style Pinhole Camera
It’s been a long while since we posted any decent pinhole cameras, so I was truly happy to receive this one – The Pinolga – A Beautiful DIY Cardboard Holga-Style Pinhole Camera. Completely made out of cardboard.
The camera made by Ray Panduro is completely made out of cardboard to resemble (one to one) the old plastic medium format Holga. As such it also accepts rolls of medium film. (It shoots 12 6×6 photos on a roll). For the pinhole fanatics, the camera has an f-stop of about F/177 – F/180 and focal length of about 55mm.
Here are some photos of more photos of the camera, followed by photos taken with the camera (slightly blurred from movement)
