If you’re a GoPro customer who purchased and received the Karma, you’ve probably already heard about the recall. You might, however, be hesitant to return yours if you’ve not yet had it fall out of the sky. Indeed, it may fly perfectly for you, and never show any issues. You might be happy just keeping your Karma and not bothering to get your money back.

I get the feeling that GoPro aren’t seeing as many returns as they’d hoped for. So, they are are sweetening the deal a little now. Everybody who ordered their Karma from the USA who returns their Karma to GoPro will also be getting a free GoPro Hero5 Black. Yes, that’s right, free, gratis, and for nothing.

GoPro haven’t been having a great time of things lately. Share prices are down, sales are down, the Hero4 Black was practically usurped by a competitor at half the cost. The Karma’s been recalled, and the Hero5 Black wasn’t as impressive or as revolutionary as customers might’ve hoped for. But now, GoPro have surprised us with something that’s pretty cool.

Users were initially underwhelmed by the GoPro’s long awaited built in GPS features in the Hero5. Pretty much all it did was tag where our photos and videos were shot. Well, every cellphone can do that. All that changes, today, though. GoPro are taking every single bit of data logged by the camera to let your produce a real-time on-screen video overlay to represent different aspects of your journey.

A lot has been said about the new GoPro Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session cameras since their recent release. The new touchscreen LCD has received a lot of praise, as has the fact that you can finally use it underwater without an external housing. But the resolutions and frame rates haven’t changed since the Hero4 Black. So how does it compare?

We posted our own GoPro Hero4 Black vs YI 4K comparison video not too long ago, and the YI 4K pretty much smoked it in almost every aspect. Have GoPro done enough with the Hero5 to make up ground? What about the Hero5 Session? In this review video from Ben Schmanke, we get to find out.

GoPro’s Karma Drone is finally here and it has folding arms

GoPro have today finally unleashed the Karma drone on the world. Originally slated for release much earlier in the year, it seemed like it may never actually happen. After a few teases over the past couple of weeks, though, GoPro seem to have made good.

Like GoPro’s cameras, the biggest feature of the Karma is its ease of use. The most notable part of that being that the arms fold in. This makes it very simple to fit into all but the tiniest of backpacks. The removable gimbal also allows you to quickly switch from using your camera on the drone to in your hand.

Did GoPro just leak photos of the Hero5, Karma drone and a new handheld gimbal on their website?

GoPro are officially announcing their new Karma drone on September 19th, perhaps the Hero5, too. GoPro have kept both a very closely guarded secret for months. It looks like somebody at the GoPro website got a little eager, though. For a short time, GoPro’s European websites displayed an image of a drone, a strange looking camera, and a handheld gimbal in the header.

One can only assume that these are the Karma drone and Hero5 action camera. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen hardware and software creators leak themselves. I would, however, have expected tighter controls on a product surrounded by as much secrecy as the Karma.

GoPro, like many companies, tends to keep pretty quiet when it comes to new products, letting very little out until an official announcement is ready to be made.  Official news, therefore, on the GoPro Hero5 is pretty much non-existent, although the rumours and speculation are plentiful.

GoPro CEO, Nick Woodman recently told Christian Times that they will “definitely release three new devices before the year ends”, but he did not specify what these products would be, or when they would be getting released.

GoPro, once the undisputed action camera leader, has had a rough time lately.

In attempt to improve its financial results and regain market share, the company announced that as of April it will be narrowing down its camera lineup and focusing on just three models.

The Hero5 won’t be one of those cameras, unfortunately, as its release date has once again been pushed back.

Thanks to Xiaomi, the GoPro Hero5 Should be Amazing

Xiaomi recently announced the $64 Yi Action Camera and based on the first reviews, GoPro has plenty of reasons to be worried.

The Yi closed several of the gaps between the GoPro and the cheaper action cameras, and now poses a serious threat to the dominance of the Hero4. GoPro however won’t give up without a fight and hopes to further distance itself from the newest rival with the release of the Hero5.

The original release date was estimated to be sometime around September, but rumor has it that the date will be pushed back. Either way, GoPro will have to respond to the Chinese by the end of 2015.

So what features and improvements are in stock for GoPro fans? 4k and 8k video recording and improved battery life, to name a couple.
