NVIDIA launches RTX 3050 mobile GPUs for low priced laptops for creatives

NVIDIA has today announced their new hotly-anticipated RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti mobile GPUs for RTX Studio laptops. Designed for both gamers and creatives, the new GPU comes with a host of new laptops coming from the usual suspects like Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.

The RTX 3050 takes advantage of many of the new GPU-accelerated AI features out there like Smart Portrait and Super Resolution in Photoshop, Scene Edit Detection in Premiere Pro and the Magic Mask feature in DaVinci Resolve 17, offering some significant performance gains over the previous generation NVIDIA RTX and GTX-based laptops.

NVIDIA’s latest RTX Studio drivers boost new AI features from Adobe and Blackmagic

A couple of years ago, graphics card manufacturer NVIDIA decided that it was time to stop focusing just on gamers and launched their “Creator Ready” drivers. Those have since evolved into what is now called their “Studio” drivers, but they’re essentially the same thing; versions of their drivers that are geared more towards content creation rather than gaming.

They’ve seen a lot of changes over the last couple of years, especially since the launch of their first series RTX cards, and now their new March 2021 version of the Studio drivers focus heavily on the latest AI-powered tools from Adobe, including the new Super Resolution feature, as well as the newest neural engine in Blackmagic’s DaVinci Resolve 17.

Adobe talks Content-aware Fill for Video, Freeform View in Premiere and GPU performance boosts

The latest Creative Cloud update from Adobe brought with it a lot of new features, changes and fixes for the whole suite. Three of the biggest are content-aware fill for video in After Effects, Freeform view for Premiere Pro and some pretty massive GPU performance upgrades. DIYP spoke with Adobe at NAB 2019 about these new updates and what they mean for users.

Nvidia releases new Creator Ready Drivers boasting improved performance in Adobe desktop apps

Nvidia unveiled their new Creator Ready Drivers (CRD) for the Titan, RTX 20, GTX 10 and GTX 16 series graphics cards at GTC 2019 last week and now they’re ready to download.

Nvidia claims they offer increased performance while offering greater stability with the apps that many photographers, video editors and other creatives use on a daily basis. Applications like Adobe Photoshop CC and Premiere Pro CC, both of which, Nvidia says see up to a 9% performance increase.

Adobe’s GPU Acceleration is Not That Great After All. Yet.

One of the celebrated improvements in Lightroom CC is the faster performance, said to be up to ten times faster, thanks to the software’s ability to leverage the graphic processor unit (GPU).

A few days after the official release, however, an Adobe engineer shared additional information regarding GPU acceleration and turns out it might not be all that great. Not right now, at least, and not for everybody.

At the moment GPU acceleration is only available in the Develop module, and even then not all editing controls enjoy it.

Additionally, while GPU implementation offers no advantage for some functions, certain others will actually take longer with the acceleration enabled.

This information also applies to Camera Raw 9.0 for Photoshop/Bridge CC.
