The new $1 Hot Wheels “Zoom In” car is a miniature GoPro camera dolly in disguise

I remember having a rather extensive range of Hot Wheels cars when I was a kid. It would’ve been great to be able to strap a camera to them and get their view of the world. Unfortunately, at the time, video cameras were kinda big. The smallest weren’t that far off a mid-sized family vehicle. Ok, maybe they were a bit smaller than that but certainly too big to strap to a tiny hot wheels car.

Thanks to modern technology, we have other options. With the GoPro Hero Session or Hero5 Session being so small, the new “Zoom In” car from Hot Wheels can easily manage to hold it. It’s set to go on sale this month for only $1.09, making it the cheapest GoPro mount out there of just about any type. And this one has wheels!

GoPro’s HERO5 has a touch screen, built in waterproofing and voice control

GoPro just announced their new line of cameras (along with the Karma drone) and frankly I am not that excited. The new line from GoPro is called Hero5 (no big surprises there) and it features only two cameras: a more advanced GoPro Hero5 Black and a smaller GoPro Hero5 session. That, I think, is a good sign that GoPro are getting some of their focus back and not spreading too thin on their camera range.

The question of whether these cameras (and drone, and gimbal) are enough to catch up with competition is a different one.

So, Santa brought you a GoPro for the holidays and you’re looking for something extreme and crazy to film with it. Well, you’re in luck, because we’ve come across one of the most impressive GoPro ‘tests’ we’ve ever seen.

It’s called the GoPro Cannon and it comes from the brilliant minds behind Eclectical Engineering, David and Ryan. The concept is fairly straightforward. Take a GoPro Hero 4 Session, create a 3D printed missile to place the camera into and launch said projectile into the sky via a compressed air cannon.[Read More…]

Polaroid: GoPro Session looks a lot like Polaroid Cube, Let The Court Decide

Just when I thought that the photography gear industry is getting a bit boring, Polaroid is stirring things up with a new patent suit against GoPro.

Polaroid (or rather C&A Marketing, which holds the Polaroid brand) filed a patent infringement suit claiming that the (now discounted) GoPro Session is infringing on their Polaroid Cube.  Polaroid’s patent, dated May 26, 2015, has only one claim: “The ornamental design for a cubic action camera, as shown and described“. So Basically Polaroid is suing GoPro over making a cubical action camera.

Hero+ New GoPro With WiFi @ $199, Hero4 Session Cuts $100 Off Price

Over the last year it seemed that GoPro are upping their positioning and slowly crawling into the pricier side of the action camera range. (going up to $500 with the HERO4 Black). Now the company is bringing it down a notch with an addition of a new Camera – the Hero+. If the name sounds familiar, it is because it is a price reduction of the Hero+ LCD, and it offers the same features, sans the LCD.

The camera ‘sits’ right between the GoPro HERO ($120) and the GoPro HERO+ LCD ($300) at $199. Features wise it provides the same set as the higher one of the two: Up to 1080 @60 FPS, 8MP and 5 fps Burst – the LCD is gone, but you get to keep Wifi – I think it’s worth the extra $70 over the plain Hero.

Just one month after announcing the entry-level HERO+ LCD, the undisputed king of action cameras has just announced another new model. This one sports an entirely new, and drastically smaller, design.

The Session looks like a lens block that was cut out of a regular GoPro making it 50% smaller.

Including its integrated waterproof housing the camera weighs just 74 grams, which is approximately half the weight of its bigger brothers in their own underwater housings.

Of course the huge cut in size and weight come at a cost; both feature and money wise.
