A dizzying tour at top speed that takes you through art galleries, underground stations and historic monuments. Sports stadiums, the arctic circle, the Faroe islands: they are all here on this whistlestop music video created entirely from Google Street View.

Adam Chitayat began the project whilst confined by the Covid-19 pandemic. He says he was “desperate for the outside world beyond my doorstep, city, state and country” and so started using Google Maps Street View images as a means to explore and escape.

Scouting locations for photoshoots used to be a time consuming and expensive affair. Mauritius is a tiny island sitting about 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) off Africa. Like I mentioned in one of my previous articles, Google Street View isn’t available everywhere – and Mauritius is one of those places. But one of its residents took matters into his own hands. Reuben Pillay took his DJI drone, drove across the island and took aerial photos of the entire coastline. He basically created his own Street View of this beautiful island, made from 360-degree images.

Google Street View lets you explore places all over the world (and out of it), and even create beautiful photos from the comfort of your home. But a Florida-born Denise Underhill got a photo from Google Street View that’s incredible and even a bit weird. As she was virtually walking down the streets of her old neighborhood, she saw a photo of her mother who passed away in 2015.
