Ever since the first video and images leaked, we knew that the new Google Pixel 4 was capable of shooting astrophotography, even handheld. If you have wondered how a humble smartphone camera can capture the night sky, Google is now offering an explanation on its blog.
Google Pixel 3 glitch causes weird clicking noises and shaky video
Multiple users of Google Pixel 3 smartphone have reported some weird glitches. Some devices are randomly making clicking noises as users move them. The others record extremely shaky video even when the phone is placed on a stable surface.
This gear vs skill challenge puts an amateur with a Fuji GFX 50R against a pro with a Google Pixel 3
When you talk about photography gear online, one thing is inevitable. Somebody will pipe up talking about how “the gear doesn’t matter, a good photographer can make a great image with a potato!”. Well, Linus and Brandon over at Linus Tech Tips decided to put this to the test.
Brandon is LTT’s DP. He has a lot of practical experience with a lot of gear in a lot of shooting scenarios. Linus is… Well, he’s Linus. He knows his tech, but isn’t exactly an expert when it comes to shooting photographs. In this video, Linus takes up arms with a Fuji GFX 50R vs Brandon with a Google Pixel 3 smartphone to see if skill or gear (or luck) is most important.
The Pixel 3’s AI automatically takes your selfie when it thinks it will look best
When Google Pixel 3 was announced, many people were surprised to learn that it only features one rear camera and a dual front camera. The phone relies heavily on AI to help you take the best photos, and the latest update is aimed particularly at selfie-takers. Thanks to Google’s AI, the Pixel 3 can now tell when you’re making different facial expressions and snap a photo automatically when it thinks it’s the best moment.
Google used this crazy 5-phone case to tweak Portrait Mode on the Pixel 3
When the Google Pixel 2 came out it was extremely impressive. Despite only having the single rear camera, it beat out everything else on DxOMark and held the position for quite a while. When the Pixel 3 was announced, it also had only the single rear camera. And despite one or two issues with the phone overall, Google made some great improvements with it.
Google has published a blog post on how they taught the Pixel 3 to predict depth for its Portrait Mode. Given that it only has a single camera, and not the dual cameras of other brands, it seems like it wouldn’t be possible, but the techniques used are pretty interesting. And involve a case that holds five separate cameras.
A crippling bug stops Google Pixel 3’s camera from working
After failing to save your photos, it looks like Google Pixel 3’s camera is affected by another bug. According to some reports, using the Pixel 3’s camera in third-party apps makes the camera crash. This includes some of the major apps such as Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Snapchat and the like.
Google’s Night Sight feature lets you shoot in the dark without a tripod or flash
Google Pixel 3 may only have one rear camera, but it relies heavily on Google’s promising AI to deliver high-quality images. The latest feature Google launched for all three generations of Pixel lets you shoot clean and bright images in near darkness – even when you can barely see anything with your own eyes. It works on both front and rear cameras, and you don’t even need a tripod or a flash.
The Google Pixel 3 XL isn’t saving your photos, but there’s a fix on the way
According to reports on Reddit and Google’s support forums, some users of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have come forward to say that it’s not saving all of their photos. And it appears that it also affects the original Pixel, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL as well. Several members of staff at The Verge have also confirmed this issue with their own phones.
Google Pixel 3 features single AI rear camera and dual selfie front cameras
Google Pixel 3 has been launched, and the rumors and leaks were true: despite the rising number of dual, triple and even quintuple smartphone cameras, Pixel 3 has a single camera on the back. However, it relies heavily on Google’s AI, promising to make high-quality pictures even with a single lens. And if you want a dual camera, you can have that too – it’s on the front.
Leaked photos of “stolen” Google Pixel 3 XL show only a single 12.2MP rear camera
While Google is one of the biggest software tech giants out there, their adventures with hardware have only been going for a relatively short amount of time. Quickly, though, they’ve established themselves as a pretty serious player in the smartphone market. Although it seems they may want to become more serious about security, too.
9to5Google is reporting that a “large number of possibly stolen Pixel 3 XL” prototype phones have been put up for sale by an alleged Ukranian black market dealer. This has led to a series of leaks about the phone which, according to 9to5Google, the dealer says is basically the same as the final Pixel 3 XL will appear.
