Godox is stepping up to compete with Aputure with the new M600D 600W Bowens mount LED light

First teased in October at the P&I Shanghai International Wedding Photographic Equipment Exhibition, the Godox M600D presents what appears to be Godox stepping up to the plate to take on the likes of Aputure and Nanlite. Well now, it’s been announced. Sort of. Information still seems to be a little patchy, but European Godox distributor, Disnet has just posted a teaser video for it to YouTube.

At 600W, it’s going to be a pretty beasty light and even last month we could see that it used an external control unit and isn’t the all-in-one system of other Godox lights like the FV200 and SL200. It doesn’t look like there’s any word on a price yet, but for comparison, the Nanlite Forta 500 retails for $1,299 and the Aputure Light Storm 600D Pro is $1,890. As well as the video, a few new photos of the light have popped up, too.

Spotted in the wild – Godox is releasing a 600W Bowens mount LED light

At the P&I Shanghai International Wedding Photographic Equipment Exhibition Godox were showing off some new toys, including a powerful 600 Watt Bowens mount LED light with external ballast. The show was actually in July, although the photos from the show seem to have only just come to light.

The images were posted as part of a series to the website Wakwb, which appears to be some kind of blog or social network based in China. Most of the images show the Godox stand and the usual equipment we’re familiar with, but two of them showed a Godox M600D light and what appears to be an M600D-CL ballast and controller.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
