Sigma hopes to add at least one more system mount to their lens arsenal in 2022

During yesterday’s announcements for the Sigma 20mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary lens for Leica L and Sony E mount cameras, one of the live presentations in Japanese included a question and answers session where Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki was asked if their lenses would come to more camera mounts. He confirmed that Sigma is looking to add at least one more mount to their mirrorless lens lineup in 2022.

He didn’t clarify which mount it could be, but there aren’t really many options out there. There’s Leica L, Sony E and MFT that Sigma already covers and Nikon Z, Canon RF and Fuji X, which they don’t. I suspect it probably won’t be that last one. Sure, it’s a popular mount, but I think they’ll target the full-frame systems where there still aren’t many 3rd party options first.

Viltrox announces ultra-wide 13mm f/1.4 autofocus lens for Fuji X priced at $469

The third-party autofocus lens collection for Fuji is just exploding now that they’ve opened up their protocols. The latest to be added to this list is an ultra-wide and super bright lens from Viltrox. It’s the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4 autofocus lens and it offers a field of view equivalent to about 20mm on a full-frame system. At f/1.4, though, for an APS-C lens this wide, that’s extremely fast, which should make it ideal for things like interiors, weddings and events.

While the lens has been announced, it’s not expected to start shipping until February. And with a $469 price tag, it’s slightly cheaper and a stop faster than the recently released Samyang 12mm f/2.0 AF as well as wider and less than half the price of Fuji’s own XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR. I can see this lens becoming very popular if it stands up to scrutiny once it gets into users hands.

Samyang’s first autofocus lens for Fuji X is the 12mm f/2 X

Well, it’s not much of a surprise, really. The teaser image posted last week by Samyang for their first autofocus Fujifilm X mount lens with a silhouette that looked shockingly like the Samyang 12mm f/2 E for Sony has turned out to be… Wait for it… the Samyang 12mm f/2 X for Fuji.

Announced today, the Samyang AF 12mm f/2 X is, as mentioned, Samyang’s first autofocus lens for Fuji X. So, it makes sense for them to go with one that they know already works on other systems rather than go for something completely new.

Samyang to launch its first Fuji X mount autofocus lens on October 26th

Since Fuji opened up its X mount to third parties, those third parties sure seem to have jumped on it. And they’re not just manual lenses that happen to use the mount, either. We’ve seen a few autofocus from Tokina, Zeiss, Viltrox and even a zoom lens from Tamron. Well, now it looks like Samyang’s jumping into the fray with what looks like a 12mm f/2.0 autofocus lens for Fuji X.

Samyang hasn’t explicitly said what the lens is, but looking at the silhouette of the lens in an image posted to the Samyang Facebook page, it looks pretty much identical to the Samyang AF 12mm f/2.0 E lens for APS-C Sony.

7Artisans has released their new 25mm f/0.95 manual focus lens for APS-C mirrorless and Micro Four Thirds. The lens was first teased in September, but now it’s finally official, available and all of the specs are published. The lens is designed specifically for mirrorless cameras, being available on Sony E, Fuji X and Nikon Z APS-C mount options, as well as MFT.

That nice wide f/0.95 maximum aperture will let in a lot of light and allow for some pretty shallow depth of field, despite being made for APS-C and MFT cameras. On APS-C it offers a field of view equivalent to about 37.5mm on full-frame and on Micro Four Thirds it’s about a 50mm full-frame equivalent field of view.

Tokina has announced a new portrait lens for the Fuji X mount system. It’s the Tokina atx-m 56mm f/1.4 X, offering a field of view equivalent to that of an 85mm lens on full-frame cameras with a wide f/1.4 aperture. Adding to the Tokina’s atx-m 23mm and 33mm f/1.4 lenses, this completes their Fuji X trio covering the most popular prime focal lengths.

Tokina says the lens is “extremely compact and lightweight”, offering a good balance with the small Fuji X mount APS-C mirrorless cameras. They also say it offers “creamy and beautiful front and back bokeh” with great light intake, thanks to its large f/1.4 aperture.

Fuji reported to be releasing no more X series cameras in 2021

Well, if you were holding out for a Fuji X-H2, you’re gonna have to hold out a little more. Fuji Rumors is reporting that Fujifilm has no plans to release any more X system cameras in 2021. All that you get for 2021 is the Fujifilm X-E4 released back at the beginning of the year.

Fuji Rumors say the information comes from “trusted sources” and as they note, this will be the first year since they started up the Fujifilm X system that only one body will have been released. It makes some sense, though, given the events of the past year and a bit.

Fujifilm has announced its new XF 18mm f/1.4 R WR lens for their X system APS-C mirrorless cameras. Part of Fuji’s series of compact, portable primes, the XF 18mm f/1.4 R WR offers a field of view equivalent to 27mm focal length on a full-frame body with a wide f/1.4 aperture and weighs just 370g.

Ideally suited to genres like travel, landscape, architecture and street photography, this autofocus lens should also be well at home with subjects like astrophotography thanks to its wide aperture, weather-resistant design and coatings to help control ghosting and flare.

Pergear has been going a bit nuts lately on the low-budget lenses. It was only in March that they released their 35mm f/1.6 and 50mm f/1.8 lenses with the 7.5mm f/2.8 fisheye just last month. Now, they’ve sent one fo their existing focal lengths into overdrive and announced the new Pergear 35mm f/1.2 manual focus lens.

Designed for Micro Four Thirds and APS-C mirrorless cameras, it’s available in MFT, Nikon Z, Canon EF-M, Fuji X and Sony E mounts. The best bit? It’s only $109.

Fuji patents discovered for XF30mm f/1.0, XF33mm f/1.0 and XF35mm f/1.0 lenses

Those fast f/1.0 Fuji lenses have been rumoured for a long time. Fuji Rumors posted about an XF 33mm f/1.0 lens that would offer a similar field of view on Fuji X cameras to a 50mm lens on full-frame way back in 2015. Then it was added to the Fuji roadmap in 2018, with price leaks last year before the lens was cancelled completely.

Fuji might have given up on the XF33mm f/1.0, but it hasn’t given up on f/1.0 lenses entirely. The XF50mm f/1.0 was announced just a couple of months ago and is expected to come in at a relatively inexpensive $1,500. But those weren’t the only f/1.0 lenses Fuji’s been working on. Hi Lows Note has just uncovered a new patent describing 30mm, 33mm and 35mm f/1.0 lenses.
