As a heroic fantasy photographer, shooting with dragons is one of my dreams. Not fake Photoshopped dragons but real dragons. But everybody knows that they are dead for a very long time. A long time, that is, until Deanerys and Games of Thrones came along.

Let’s go back to few months ago. I was working In Paris. One morning, I saw an advertisement about Dragonland, an exhibition with life size dragons. “Wow, that must be really great”. And I created the equation in my mind : Dragons + Daenerys = Cosplay shoot.

How I shot this brave themed fairy tale with real green fire

For a long time I wanted to create a Brave styled photo shoot. I really love the heroic fantasy and Celtic moods that go with the movie and it would not be the first time I go Celtic :).

But, an official cos play version of the movie was already out there, so I wanted to do something different. Then I met Elyra Carrousel. Aside from being a wonderful model, she has a vast collection of wonderful costumes and dresses. And to make a good thing perfect, she invented a medieval and Celtic persona for herself – a red headed character called Lilwen. We had a chat, we were both excited about it, we went to work.

Oh, we also did not want to use any Photoshop special effects for that shoot

A few months ago I began a photography series recreating the iconic X-men group with cosplay artists. My first character was the Dark phoenix. After completing this, I went to look for the second hero. Of course that called for another screening of the X-men (this time the X-men 2 movie).

I fell in love with The Nightcrawler – Kurt Wagner – and decided he would be my next project.

French photographer Frederic Amadu recently shot a series starring Marvel Universe’s Dark Phoenix (oh, make a movie already!!). The Dark Phoenix ( or Jean Grey) has elemental control over fire. So fire was a main part of the shoot. Easier said than done. Frederic had to hack A Broncolor MoveL unit twice. A Different hack for each shot.

How I Made The forgotten kingdom Alive Again

When I was younger, I used to visit the French Brittany quite a lot. Brittany is the Celtic part of France where many wonderful legends of my childhood lived: King Arthur, Broceliande forest, The Holy Grail,… I wanted to organize a shoot in that location for a really long time and looked for a good location and concept. A few months ago, I learnt about an artificial lake, right in the middle of the French Brittany. Being artificial, the lake is emptied every 30 years for maintenance. and what do you know. 2015 hit one of those 30 years marks.

It a lake like no other. The old houses and dead trees are still there, under the water, and after several months without water, the lake dries completely, down to desert-dry level. The wonderful thing about it is that all the scenery is still there, protected from man. This is the perfect spot to start telling new stories.

I contacted 2 models and a costume designer / stylist to collaborate in my story. I found 2 incredible models: a girl with a very long red hair and a guy with a very long barber.

Few months ago I released an Eccentric Pyromancers promotion picture for Andrey Das, Kev and Laury new performance (you may recall other photos done for the show by Benjamin Von Wong that were taken a few days earlier).

The meeting was at Paris, an April night, Palais de Tokyo during a very hard rainy/windy night… I didn’t know that it will be one of my most Epic shoot session! [Read More…]
