Hackers using deepfakes to apply for jobs, says FBI

Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any weirder, it just did. The FBI is warning companies to be vigilant. Hackers are creating deep fakes using stolen identities to apply for remote jobs. Yes, you read that correctly. The warning was posted as a public service announcement on the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

The FBI explained how cybercriminals are stealing Americans’ personal identifiable information (PII) and applying for remote jobs. They then use deepfake videos to pass online job interviews.

Drone Operator Arrested After Crashing Into the Empire State Building

Major cities and famous landmarks often make for awesome shots, and that’s probably what Sean Nivin Riddle was after when he went filming with his drone around New York City’s Empire State Building last night.

Unfortunately for the 27-year-old his drone crashed into the 40th floor of the skyscraper, leading to local and federal security forces swarming to the area and arresting him.

FBI Director says civilians with cameras are to blame for increase in homicides

With at least 1,108 American citizens killed by police in 2014, including some high-profile cases like the Ferguson shooting, and 2015 headed towards a similar figure, public scrutiny of law enforcement has increased dramatically.

Blaming police for killing innocent people as well as using excessive and fatal force against criminals, many civilians have taken it upon themselves to hold police officers accountable for their actions.

Be it by installing dashboard cameras in cars or recording police activity out in the streets, civilians are making it harder for officers to get away with police brutality and civil rights violations.

But, is it possible that this increased scrutiny is causing police officers to fear becoming the “stars” of the next viral video and in result leading to an increase in homicides and other crimes?

According FBI Director James Comey, this is exactly what’s happening, and if concerned civilians keep it up there will be “profound consequences”.

FBI Terrorism Trial Reveals Rare Photos of Osama Bin Laden’s Afghan Hideout

The photos were released by the U.S. Department of Justice to be used as evidence in the terrorism conspiracy trial against bin Laden’s lieutenant Khald al-Fawwaz, taking place in Manhattan.

The set of photos, captured by Palestinian journalist Abdel Barri Atwan, shows bin Laden in his Tora Bora lair in Afghanistan, to which he fled after the 9/11 attacks.

Despite being a free man back then, bin Laden was already hiding in fear that the US had him targeted.
