Samsung responds to “fake Moon” accusations. Sort of

A Reddit user recently exposed Samsung for creating “fake moon photos” using AI instead of actual photography. It caused a lot of stir among netizens, and Samsung has decided to respond to the accusations. Well, sort of. The company published a blog post that pretty much says the same as the one published last year in Korean, and it confirms: yes, Samsung does use AI to recreate your Moon shots from blurry blobs.

Samsung recently got into the center of attention for all the wrong reasons. As it turns out, Samsung’s “space zoom” isn’t exactly a zoom feature. Instead, the Moon photos you can take with it are actually AI-enhanced photos of a blurry blob you could take with almost any phone. So, Samsung has been accused of faking the images and false advertising. Again.

Strike four: Huawei caught passing DSLR images as smartphone camera photos again

Huawei found itself in the center of another scandal when they passed DSLR photos as they were shot with the company’s smartphone. If you think this sounds familiar, you’re right. Huawei did it before, not once, not twice – but three times. And I guess the third time wasn’t a charm so they did it again for the fourth time.

For a third time, Huawei is busted using stock DSLR photos to advertise their phone camera

Huawei was busted two times before for passing off DSLR photos as their smartphone camera images. Well, it has happened again. To show off camera capabilities of the latest P30 phone, Huawei used stock photos, as well as a photo from someone’s portfolio. Needless to say – all of them were taken with a DSLR.

Earlier this year, Samsung was busted for using stock photos to show off capabilities of Galaxy A8’s camera. And now they did it again – they used a stock image taken with a DSLR to fake the camera’s portrait mode. How do I know this, you may wonder? Well, it’s because Samsung used MY photo to do it.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. His work has been featured in various publications and he has worked with notable brands such as Skoda, EE, Boeing, Huawei, Microsoft, BMW, Conde Nast, Electronic Arts, Discovery, BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, NBC, and many others.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
