A Reddit user recently exposed Samsung for creating “fake moon photos” using AI instead of actual photography. It caused a lot of stir among netizens, and Samsung has decided to respond to the accusations. Well, sort of. The company published a blog post that pretty much says the same as the one published last year in Korean, and it confirms: yes, Samsung does use AI to recreate your Moon shots from blurry blobs.
Samsung fakes its zoomed phone photos of Moon using AI
Samsung recently got into the center of attention for all the wrong reasons. As it turns out, Samsung’s “space zoom” isn’t exactly a zoom feature. Instead, the Moon photos you can take with it are actually AI-enhanced photos of a blurry blob you could take with almost any phone. So, Samsung has been accused of faking the images and false advertising. Again.
Strike four: Huawei caught passing DSLR images as smartphone camera photos again
Huawei found itself in the center of another scandal when they passed DSLR photos as they were shot with the company’s smartphone. If you think this sounds familiar, you’re right. Huawei did it before, not once, not twice – but three times. And I guess the third time wasn’t a charm so they did it again for the fourth time.
For a third time, Huawei is busted using stock DSLR photos to advertise their phone camera
Huawei was busted two times before for passing off DSLR photos as their smartphone camera images. Well, it has happened again. To show off camera capabilities of the latest P30 phone, Huawei used stock photos, as well as a photo from someone’s portfolio. Needless to say – all of them were taken with a DSLR.
Samsung used my DSLR photo to fake their phone’s “portrait mode”
Earlier this year, Samsung was busted for using stock photos to show off capabilities of Galaxy A8’s camera. And now they did it again – they used a stock image taken with a DSLR to fake the camera’s portrait mode. How do I know this, you may wonder? Well, it’s because Samsung used MY photo to do it.
