Seattle schools sue TikTok, Meta, Snapchat, and YouTube over students’ mental health and behavioral issues

TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube; and their parent companies are facing yet another lawsuit over mental health issues in children. This time, it comes from Seattle’s public school district, claiming that apps have had a major role in the “youth mental health crisis.”

The district accuses social media platforms of causing a variety of mental health and behavioral issues in children and being “exploitive and manipulative.” According to the lawsuit, all these platforms are deliberately manipulating and exploiting users, targeting particularly the youngest ones among them.

Facebook only needs one photo with the one word to copy your handwriting

Facebook has introduced a new research project that’s impressive and scary at the same time. TextStyleBrush uses AI to recreate your handwriting based on a photo of it, as hinted in its very name. And all it needs is a single word and a single photo of it.

Facebook’s creepy patent wants to “read emotions” through your smartphone’s camera

A patent recently approved by the US Patent and Trademark Office details how Facebook wants to read your emotions. And it wants to do it using your on-screen keyboard. It’ll look at what and how you type to try to determine how you feel about a piece of content. The goal is to be able to bring you more suitable content that you might like to see.

Still pending, though, is another patent application, also dealing with “reading emotions”. Although, this one, is far more creepy. It actually wants to use your camera to watch you while you use Facebook to see how you respond to content. Again, Facebook’s claimed goal is to provide you with better suited content. But it does feel like they’re trying to turn your phone into your own personal stalker.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. His work has been featured in various publications and he has worked with notable brands such as Skoda, EE, Boeing, Huawei, Microsoft, BMW, Conde Nast, Electronic Arts, Discovery, BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, NBC, and many others.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
