Stop using filters, you’re not a Disney character

I was chatting to a friend who told me a story about how her much younger cousin had escaped on holiday to somewhere tropical as an antidote to this whole pandemic thing. Sounds pretty idyllic, I said. Except apparently, the entire trip was (according to the cousin) “a disaster” because the girl’s poor boyfriend was so terrible at taking photos that she didn’t end up with a “single good photo” of herself for her social media. The photos were so bad apparently, that even a beauty filter couldn’t save them!

Like the holiday, that relationship is probably doomed, and not because of inferior photography skills. That’s apparently where we are at now as a species, with a large number of people obsessing over their looks and not wanting to post anything but perfect-looking, heavily enhanced and filtered images.

50-year-old dad with FaceApp trolls everyone that he’s a beautiful biker girl

It’s not strange for a young, gorgeous biker girl to amass nearly 30 thousand followers on Twitter. But what if I told you that the girl is actually a 50-year-old dad? Yup, this man has trolled everyone using FaceApp and made my day today. And funnily enough, after he confessed his prank, it seems that his followers loved him even more!

I’m sure that your Facebook feed has been flooded with portraits of your friends looking old in the past few weeks. FaceApp has lately been all the rage, but at the same time, the popular app has raised some privacy concerns. Are the photos stored somewhere? Are they sold to third parties? Can they be used to identify you? These are only some of the questions users have been asking, and FaceApp has now responded to them.

Every once in a while, a “fun” website or app that requires us to upload a photo of ourselves goes viral. In 2015, it was Microsoft’s How-Old.net, which would guess your age based on a selfie. It turned out to be a showcase for Microsoft’s facial recognition technology.
