Canon launch their own range of branded clothes and accessories

When Adobe announced their new line of clothes a little while ago, we all caught on that it was a joke pretty quickly. This time, though, with April 1st still over a week away, not so much. Canon UK have now launched a new range of Canon branded clothing and accessories.

The release of the new clothing is to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the EOS system. The range features cameras from the EOS archive as well as the original “Kwanon” logo, first introduced in 1934. Although the range also includes a 75th anniversary scale replica of the Hansa Canon. Canon’s first production model 35mm camera.

Canon’s new flagship C700 Cinema camera will set you back up to $38,000

Canon have announced their new flagship cinema camera, and it’s quite a beast. It’s a much larger camera than the previous EOS C offerings, aimed at serious production. It’s also a far more modular design offering a lot of customisation.

With the optional Codex recorder, it captures 4.5K RAW video at up to 120fps. Internally, it captures 2K ProRes at up to 240fps, and 4K ProRes at up to 60FPS. It is the first Cinema EOS camera to support anamorphic shooting with a built in “de-sequeeze” function for external monitoring. It also features the same dual pixel autofocus technology of the 5D Mark IV.

Test shows that Rolling shutter on the 5D Mark IV is a pretty big issue with 4K

The folks over at DPReview have got their hands on a 5D Mark IV. One of the tests they’ve performed with respect to video is how well it handles movement. Rolling shutter artifacts are just a fact of life with CMOS sensors. These types of sensor capture a scene line by line. They do it very quickly, although not quickly enough to prevent things from appearing to lean or just looking plain weird.

CMOS sensors have improved on the rolling shutter issues over the last few years. Canon’s new 5D Mark IV, however, doesn’t really seem to be that great at all. It’s certainly not as good as many were hoping for, especially if shooting 4K.

Magic Lantern Puts Linux On EOS Cameras. Could Be Developer’s (and filmmakers) Heaven

The team a Magic Lantern has done wonders for the filmmakers industry (and arguably for Canon as well). They made RAW shooting on DSLRs available, implemented a scripting language, and even improved the exposure and dynamic range of the Canon EOS line.

But announcing that the ML team managed to run a 3.19 Linux Kernel on several EOS cameras has the potential to make a huge difference in how apps are developed for cameras. Apps for cameras? yes. This may become a reality.
