This is your last chance to shoot the Eiffel tower without a hideous wall

It seems another controversial wall may be getting ready to be built. In France, this time. In a $20 million project, the French government plans to construct an 8.2ft high bulletproof glass wall around the base of the Eiffel Tower. The primary goal is to increase protection against potential terrorism, but it’s been harshly criticised by locals as “tasteless” and an “eyesore”.

The wall is set to be completed by autumn, and critics have suggested it will undermine the French capital’s tourism industry even further. Paris tourism has already suffered as the result of a series of terrorist attacks that have killed more than 230 people in the last few years. Despite this, the tower still draws around 6 million visitors per year.

Man Asks Photoshoppers to Place the Eiffel Tower Under His Finger; Gets Trolled Big Time

It is said that 7 million people visit the Eiffel Tower each year, and as with the Leaning Tower of Pisa, many of them take forced perspective photos pretending to be holding, pushing or otherwise interacting with it.

One tourist, who tried taking such a photo and was quite a ways off, recently posted his attempt on 4chan’s Graphic Design forum and innocently asked for someone to photoshop the Eiffel Tower so it appears under his finger.

Awakening the forum’s trolls, the poster received tens if not hundreds of edited photos; none quite as he had expected.

Photographing Photos of Paris

I recently had a short stay in Paris. I knew that there would not be much time for photography, but I was determined to make the most out of the opportunity (I think I slept for about 8 hours over 3 days).

I photograph people, so I had planned to recruit other tourists to fill in as models – but with the volume of relentless touts swarming all of the famous landmarks, convincing a stranger to sign a model release was a bit of a challenge.

I was also trying to think of ways to photograph the famous landmarks of Paris in a way that was at least a little different from the millions of times they had all been photographed before.

The idea I came up with was to use my Rolleiflex vintage film medium format camera’s projection viewfinder to photograph photos of Paris.

Shared a Night-Time Photo Of The Eiffel Tower? You Are Breaking The Law

One of the most iconic places to visit in France (and in Paris in particular) is the Eiffel tower. And while anyone is free to take its photos by day or night, sharing a photo of the light-show that the tower is engulfed in is pretty much infringing on the copyright of the show.

torrentfreak aims a spot light on this weird copyright situation by explaining that some architecture and some landmarks are copyrighted.
