How I shoot 200-megapixel 360° panoramic images with the DJI Mini 2

In this article, I am planning to discuss the way I use my DJI Mini 2, a cheap drone that many people dismiss as being a toy for beginners in order to get photos and animations that stand out. While spreading my belief that with great knowledge you can overcome the limitations of your gear & budget.

I don’t know if this ever happens to someone else, but sometimes I leave home thinking that I would go in one place and end up in an entirely different one. This is what happened to me on the 5’th of March. The universe was calling, I responded and ended up on a hill near Brasov, Romania looking at one of the most amazing sunsets I have ever witnessed.

DJI Opens up the Mobile SDK to add new features to Air 2S, Mini 2 and Mini SE drones

DJI has expanded its Mobile SDK for Android to support the DJI Air 2S, Mini 2 and Mini SE drones. Yes, that’s right, for now, it’s Android, although an iOS update is expected soon. Android first is a very odd move these days, especially from a company like DJI, but here we are. Interestingly, the recently announced DJI Mavic 3 hasn’t made it onto the compatibility list (yet).

The Mobile SDK allows app developers for mobile apps like Litchi, DroneLink and DroneDeploy unlock new features and tools allowing users to control their drones in ways the DJI app doesn’t allow. Like being able to set up waypoint missions or all manner of other things that the standard app for your drone won’t let you do.

DJI confirms DJI Mini 2 battery issues – fix on the way

There have been a number of claims about battery issues with the DJI Mini 2. Specifically, that the DJI Mini 2 has a battery discharge problem, potentially causing long-term harm to the health of batteries when stored in the drone or charging hub.

It’s not so much a safety issue, but one of cost. With shortened lifespan, you’d be buying them more often. DJI has officially responded to the claims now, acknowledging the issue and that they’re working on a firmware update to solve the problem.

This guy hacked his DJI Mini 2’s LEDs to add remote control payload delivery

Making things work in a way they’re not supposed to (or at least, a way they’re not designed to) is always fascinating to me. And this one is particularly ingenious. Payload delivery systems are widely available for drones, although they typically require separate radio transmission systems. That’s a pain on a tiny drone like the DJI Mini 2.

You wouldn’t think the Mini 2 could handle carrying much extra weight, but it’s thrust to weight ratio makes it pretty strong. Everett Bradford, realised that with a little modification and tinkering, he could take advantage of the Mini 2’s remotely controlled multicoloured LEDs to tie a payload delivery system directly into DJI’s own software natively. Sort of.

DJI’s Mavic Mini 2 shoots 4K, flies further and still weighs only 249g

DJI has announced the update to last year’s Mavic Mini, which addresses a number of complaints users had about the original while retaining its most valuable features. The DJI Mavic Mini 2 is the same size, it still weighs less than the 250g limit imposed in many countries before registration is required, and aside from the name printed on it, it looks virtually identical to its predecessor.

But what has changed are its video capabilities, which now offer 4K recording at up to 30 frames per second. It also uses OcuSync 2.0 for image transmission with better dual-band support and interference resistance for up to 10km transmission. It also has faster motors and an extra minute of battery life, although there’s still no obstacle avoidance.
