Although DJI might be pushing the new Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom drones, the original DJI Mavic Pro is still a very competent drone, and still very popular. Many have stuck with the Mavic Pro despite the newer releases, and many are still looking to buy one, hoping to catch those deals.

Well, here’s a deal for you. B&H has the DJI Mavic Pro Fly More Combo on sale today for only $869. That’s $430 off the regular $1,299 price.

Founded in 2012, ParaZero specialises in the development of parachute systems for both manned and unmanned vehicles. And we’ve shown you some of their drone parachute technology a couple of years ago being tested on a 3DR Solo. Since then, ParaZero has gone on to produce a range of “SafeAir” parachutes for larger drone models, like the DJI Matrice 600 series.

Now, though, they’re looking at a more mainstream audience, offering new SafeAir parachutes for DJI’s very popular Mavic Pro and Phantom series drones. The biggest benefit of this new model is that in the event the chute needs to be used, it can be repacked by the end user, and reused in the future.

Hot on the heels of the new DJI Mavic Air, we’re already starting to hear rumours about the Mavic Pro’s real replacement. A new Mavic Pro II. And the big news is that the sensor gets an upgrade from 2/3″ to a whole 1″ like the Phantom 4 Pro. Not only that, but there’s also a big increase in battery capacity for 35 minutes of flight time. And there’s said to be a pair of rear sensors. And according to DRN, it’s already in production.

With the recent announcement from DJI about the Mavic air, DJI now has a drone at each $200/$300 step (give or take) from the $499 Spark*, through the $799 Mavic Air ending with the $999 Mavic pro (or $1,100 for the Platinum Pro).

But which is the drone you want need? With the steps being so small it is tempting to jump to the next level for just a few more dollars, but should you? Here is a breakdown on what each of those drones will do for you and which is better for each of their intended uses.

Well, we knew it wouldn’t be long before the comparisons started coming. And what better excuse than a new drone for another Casey McKinnon collaboration? While much of that collaboration is over on Peter’s channel,  He did take time to help Casey out with this pretty decent review of the new DJI Mavic Air which also compares it to the Spark, Mavic Pro, and Phantom 4 Pro.

How to fix the DJI Mavic Pro Tilted Horizon problem

After a while of shooting with the DJI Mavic Pro, I notice something weird, my footage was off.  Whatever I did I could not get a clean sliding shot. Looking deep I realized many of my shots were a bit crooked. Turns out my gimbal was not calibrated. When you are taking photos or footage looking down, it’s barely noticeable but when you are trying to shoot anything with horizontal lines it becomes obvious.

The solution is easy, you need to calibrate the DJI Mavic Pro gimbal. Calibration may sound like a big word, but its simply telling the Mavic what is the gimbal “idle” position to keep the horizon level.

Establishing shots are important when you are telling a story, they set the scene and often the mood for the viewers. We recently added the Mavic Pro to our arsenal, and the number of story-telling tools you get from just $1,000 (or $899 in current promotion) is staggering.

Here are three establishing shots that you can do with the Mavic Pro and would be very hard to do without a drone.

Rent a DJI Mavic Pro for free courtesy of National Geographic

Wouldn’t you love to be able to go and rent a Mavic Pro for free? Well, apparently now, you can. At least, you can if you live in the USA or Canada. DJI have teamed up with National Geographic for their My Mavic contest. The prize, somewhat obviously, is a Mavic Pro.

Oddly, it says that rental is “world-wide” at the top of the page. The terms, though, state it is only open to residents of the USA and Canada. Given Canadians would be unable to actually fly the Mavic without risking breaking the law, including them is a bit redundant. Recent drone-related events aren’t going to help, either. Still, if you’re in the USA, you’re all set.

DJI updates Mavic Pro to make less noise with longer flying time

We’ve been expecting an update to the DJI Mavic Pro for quite some time now. Released almost a year ago, the Mavic has proven to be extremely popular. People expected DJI to take the Mavic in a similar route to the Phantom. That is to have a few different models in the range with different features. Now, DJI have finally announced the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum at the IFA trade show.

I have to say, it’s a little underwhelming. There are a couple of neat enhancements, though. Firstly, the flight time has been increased by 10%, which is about an extra 3 minutes. They’ve made it quite a bit quieter, too, reducing noise by 4dB. It’s also had a new paint job. Aside from that, though, it’s essentially the same drone.
