You didn’t think that just re-releasing an old press release was all Hasselblad had in store to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landings, did you? Hasselblad has today announced that they will make a new Special Edition matte black version of their upcoming 907X camera body and CFV II 50c digital back.
Announced just last month, the 907X is the smallest medium format camera Hasselblad has ever made, along with the CFV II 50C digital back, and while pricing and availability for those haven’t been announced yet, the new Special Edition version has.

This two-part video series from Johnnie Behiri at Cinema5D covering the creation of the new Fujifilm GFX100 medium format digital camera has been absolutely fantastic to watch. In Part one, Johnnie met with the folks from Fuji to talk about the design and concept of the camera and the challenges faced during that process.
Now, Part 2 has been released which shows the first production run of Fuji GFX100 cameras actually being built. It’s a wonderful insight into the birth of a new camera.

News of Fujifilm working on a 100-megapixel camera has been around since Photokina 2018 last September. Finally, only last month, it was unveiled. The Fuji GFX 100 is Fujifilm’s latest flagship mirrorless medium format camera. The folks from Cinema5D got the opportunity to travel to Japan to see the birth of this new camera and monitor its development.
Naturally, they shot video so the rest of us could take a peek. This is just the first part of a two-part series on the making of the GFX 100. Part one deals with the design and development of the camera, while part two will see the factory where the camera is actually made.

It seems that every time a new super high-resolution camera is released, one of the first samples we see of it in use is a timelapse. And the Fuji GFX100 announced a few days ago certainly qualifies under that “super high-resolution” qualifier. So, here’s the obligatory timelapse, and it’s an absolute beauty.

Fuji’s new GFX 100 is here, and it’s a big looking beast of a camera. It’s a 102-megapixel camera with a 43.8 x 32.9mm BSI CMOS sensor. We don’t know if it’s the Sony IMX461, but if it is, it should show some excellent high ISO performance and increased colour accuracy.
The GDX 100 shoots video, too, offering 4K DCI and UHD up to 4:2:0 10-bit internally or 4:2:2 10-bit externally over HDMI. It also has an F-log gamma setting to maximise dynamic range and give more grading options in post. Oh, and it has 3.76 million phase detection AF points.

To shoot medium format has been a yearlong dream, but I have to admit I didn’t know it would be such a mind blowing experience. The Pentax 645Z (51,4 mega pixels) arrived on the market in 2014 and was the first camera to ever exceed 100 points in the DxOMark sensor test. For some unknown reason the score and review wasn’t published before 2017. There is plenty of info to be found on the internet concerning the camera specs so I won’t cover that in much detail. What is of greater interest to me and hopefully the reader is the medium format experience.

There hasn’t been a lot of information about the Fujifilm GFX 100S yet, but some photos have been discovered on Instagram. They were actually posted to Instagram back in October 2018 by gao3366, but nobody seems to have noticed them until they were sent to Fuji Rumors.
The four images were posted as a single Instagram post, so you’ll have to flick through them in the embed, but they show the GFX 100S from the front, top, rear and side views, being held in a hand to give you a sense of overall scale.

Hasselblad has expanded their XCD lens system for three new lenses and a teleconverter ahead of Photokina 2018. The latest additions to the X-system are the XCD 2,8/135, the XCD 4/21 and the XCD 1,9/80 – the latter being Hasselblad’s fastest lens ever with the aperture of f/1.9.
Leica’s new S3 medium format camera comes with a 64 megapixel upgrade

The Panasonic/Sigma/Leica alliance wasn’t the only thing that Leica spoke about yesterday during the Photokina press event. They’ve also officially announced the new Leica S3 medium format camera.
There still aren’t really many details, but it does increase the resolution from the S2’s 37.5MP up to 64MP. sure, it might not be quite as high resolution as the GFX 100S Fuji announced yesterday, but that’s still pretty impressive.
