The composite art of Jason Hahn

Jason Hahn is a photographer and digital artist living in Phoenix Arizona.

In his own words “[I’ve been there] for most of my life, with my wife and three sons. I operate a family owned Marble and Granite company for a living in north Phoenix, but that doesn’t stop me from immersing myself into my passion for digital art and photography when I find the time.

I started out as a pencil artist first before photography. Drawing and painting was something I did as a kid and never stopped loving, but after I got married and started to have kids, I had to put the pencil down. Around 2002-2003, I received a copy of Photoshop from my father in-law. I dabbled with it for a while and used it to digitally paint some of my old comic book drawings, but having young children, I just didn’t have time for it.

It wasn’t until 2009 that I got back into Photoshop because my wife became a fitness model and competitor. I bought my first camera and started to take pictures of my wife and edited them to help her to build a modeling portfolio.”

Finnish photographer and digital artist Antti Karppinen has a vivid imagination, and it’s combined with 23 years of experience in Photoshop. When these two come together, anything is possible. His motto is “Imagine anything” and indeed, whatever he imagines, he can turn into an artwork. He shared with us some of his digital art, along with the source photos he created it from. So, you can see for yourself what imagination and skill can do when they get together.

From time to time, we get to see really masterful digital art. The young Ukranian digital artist brings together photography and digital art, reality and dream, fairy tales and dark stories – and creates beautiful art from them using Photoshop.

Viktoria Solidarnyh takes photos and turns them into composites. Some of them are realistic, while the others look more like digital drawings. All of them are made by combining many photos, and many artworks look like they belong on a book or movie cover. Bored Panda shows a quick before and after for those creations.

These digital collages bring characters from classical paintings into the modern world

Bringing classical paintings and digital art together can work in different ways. In his project Art History in Contemporary Life, Ukrainian artist Alexey Kondakov uses digital collage to bring together two worlds that seem impossible to merge. Characters from paintings, mainly from Romantic period, get a new life in the photos from modern life. Thanks to Alexey’s fantastic sense of composition and photo manipulation skills, the characters from classical paintings blend perfectly with digital images and create a different, altered reality.

Christmas is a holiday that brings people joy and happiness and puts them in festive mood. Most of us spend time at home with our families, sharing love and joyful moments. And it’s probably kids who enjoy this holiday the most, because there are presents waiting for them under the tree.

Unfortunately, not all children are able to spend Christmas at home with their families. Many of them are spending holidays in hospital bed, scared and uncertain what will happen tomorrow. For them and their families, every day is a struggle, and Christmas is no exception. But a kind-hearted Australian photographer decided to make this holiday season special for the young ones who spend it in hospital.

Mike Roshuk is a professional Photographic Artist, Illustrator, and Graphics Specialist based in Edmonton Alberta. He specializes in merging the worlds of photography and illustration, creating beautifully rendered artwork ranging from scenes of fantasy to pop-culture inspired images. I asked Mike to walk us through his mario world inspired composite

Whenever I’m trying to think of an idea for an image to create, I draw inspiration from aspects of pop culture that I have a strong connection with. This whole Pokemon Go craze these days has had me thinking about my favorite games from when I was growing up. Super Mario Brothers 1, 2, 3, and Super Mario World on the SNES were a huge part of my childhood. I thought it would be great to put a spin on some tribute pieces to these games.

Like with most of the images I create, I begin with a series of sketches. I took a look at a bunch of game screenshots for reference (although much of it was already burned into my subconscious anyway), and sketched out a few rough ideas based on the 3rd installment of the Mario series. Of course, I wanted to have a female version of Mario, and wanted to focus on creating some scenes with a lot of energy to them, rather than the typical pin-up style I’ve normally done in the past.
