Award-winning Reuters photographer, Yannis Behrakis, has died at the age of 58. He was one of Reuters’ most decorated and best-loved photographers, and on 2 March 2019, he lost a long battle with cancer.
Sadly, we have more than once heard the tragic stories of photographers falling to their death while trying to take a photo. The latest tragedy happened in Lodi, California when a 63-year old photographer Jiyoun Park tried to take a photo from the roof of a parking garage. The man fell 40 feet from the ledge and died shortly after.
Chuck Westfall, a photography industry legend and Canon’s main technical advisor, died yesterday after a long battle with kidney cancer. He began his career at Canon at 1982 and as Canon writes, he worked his way up to become the Technical Advisor for the company’s Consumer Imaging Group. Westfall was loved and respected among photographers, and his death made the community shocked and saddened.
Taking the photo of a lifetime is something I will always push another photographer to do. But, there are limits and a little common sense and precaution goes a long way.
