Nikon was forced to delay several pieces of gear in 2020. These included two Z-mount lenses, the 120-300mm F-mount lens, and the Nikon D6 DSLR. Since the coronavirus situation in Japan is getting worse, we can expect delays from Nikon in 2021, too.
Sony delays A7S III shipments due to demand that “greatly exceeded our expectations”
Another day, another camera, another “There are delays because we underestimated the demand!” notification from that camera’s manufacturer. This time, it’s Sony. Sony Japan has announced via their website that the Sony A7S III orders have “greatly exceeded our expectations”.
Nikon Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 lens to be delayed due to the coronavirus
Like most companies, Nikon has also been hit by the coronavirus outbreak. If you’ve been looking forward to the 24-200mm f/4-6.3 lens for your Nikon mirrorless, you’ll need to wait some more. Sadly, the release of the recently announced NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR has been postponed.
Report: Coronavirus to cause delays in production of Canon EOS R5
Canon EOS R5 has been anticipated for quite some time. But just like the coronavirus has been affecting the entire industry, it looks like it will affect the launch of the R5 too. According to the latest reports, the camera could be released as late as October 2020 due to supply chain issues.
Nikon D6 delayed until May; another delay due to the coronavirus outbreak
The development of the Nikon D6 was announced six months ago, and we were hoping to finally see it at The Photography Show in Birmingham this March. However, we’ll have to wait a bit longer. According to the latest news, the Nikon D6 is being delayed and it won’t be released before May current year. And the reason is, once again, the coronavirus outbreak.
Nikon delays the release of 120-300mm f/2.8 lens due to Coronavirus
The coronavirus (COVID-19) has been affecting people and businesses all over the world, and it hasn’t spared the photo industry. After Canon temporarily shutting down some of its factories, now Nikon is delaying the launch of the Nikkor 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR lens due to “the global impact of the novel coronavirus outbreak.”
Nikon delays Z-mount 70-200mm f/2.8 lens due to “production reasons”

If you ordered a new Sigma 24-70 mm f/2.8 FE, expect delays
Sigma has just recently released its 24-70mm f/2.8 lens for Sony FE, and it seems to be more popular than the company expected. According to an announcement from Sigma Japan, the company can’t keep up with a high demand for the new lens. So, if you want to add one to your kit, it may come later than it was originally announced.
Nikon apologises for pre-order delays due to being sold out of the new D850
Well, it looks like the Nikon D850 is a big hit, if the pre-order is anything to go by. Nikon have actually sold out of all of their pre-order stock, and have issued a notice apologising for expected shipping delays.
I suppose it’s not really much of a surprise that demand for the D850 is somewhat overwhelming. Once the final specs were made public, and the first reviews out, there were a lot of happy people out there. And I heard talk from more than a few people talking about jumping ship from their current brand to switch back to Nikon.
Nikon & Canon both report shipping delays for new DSLRs
I don’t suppose this bit of news will be much of a problem for most people. A limited edition 100th anniversary Nikon D5 is either going to be way over budget or just not that interesting to the majority of Nikon shooters. As for the 6D Mark II, it’s proven to be surprisingly popular. Surprising when you consider the early reviews and disappointments.
Regardless, both Nikon Japan and Canon Japan have announced that these DSLRs are being hit with shipping delays. Nikon released a statement that the 100th anniversary edition Nikon D5 has been delayed by a couple of weeks to “early August”. Canon’s statement cites the number orders surprissing their expectations.
