Sony A7 IV launch delayed – pushed back from mid-September to late October

Well, there haven’t been all that many rumours about the apparently impending Sony A7 IV. We’ve figured it must be coming at some point relatively soon, given Sony’s typical release cycles and the fact that it was possibly a body Sony registered in April, but there hasn’t been a lot of information leaked about it at all.

It seems, though, that an announcement had been planned for mid-September. Now, according to Sony Alpha Rumors, that announcement has been delayed until late October. And, not surprisingly, even after the announcement comes, there will be a limited supply for the first few months due to the global silicon shortage.

Nikon Z fc 28mm f/2.8 Special Edition Kit release date delayed indefinitely

We already knew that Nikon struggling to keep up with the pre-order demand of the Nikon Z fc, after an announcement earlier this month telling us exactly that. That original announcement said that the Z fc and Zfc 28mm f/2.8 Special Edition Kits were both scheduled to be released late this month, but that there are going to be delays and it will take some time for items to be delivered.

Now, a new announcement from Nikon says that the Z fc 28mm f/2.8 Special Edition Kits are on hold indefinitely. The release doesn’t specifically state that there are any delays on the lens sold separately, but given that the camera itself and the 16-50mm kits are expected to release on time, I would imagine the lens itself is what’s causing the delays.

We’ve seen so much gear delayed during 2020 and 2021 that it’s not even a surprise any longer. The coronavirus pandemic has turned everything upside down, and electronic chip production and supply have also been affected. But this hasn’t only caused the delays we’ve seen so far. It has also led to issues like fake parts and increased prices, according to the latest reports.

Less than four days after Nikon Z fc announcement, Nikon can’t keep up with demand

The new Nikon Z cf APS-C mirrorless was only announced four days ago and Nikon has already issued a statement claiming that they can’t keep up with the pre-order demands. The statement was posted to the Nikon Japan website yesterday, citing the “large number of reservations”. This goes for both the Z fc body only as well as the kit containing the new 28mm f/2.8 Special Edition lens.

I suppose it’s not entirely unexpected, as every single product announced by any manufacturer in the world of photography and video these days seems to be followed up by an “Oh no, we didn’t realise it’d be this popular!” statement a few days later. But, really? Come on, manufacturers. What are you doing?!?

I mean, yeah, ok, so there’s a global semiconductor shortage, but it always seems to be the same old story these days whenever any manufacturer releases a new lens. “There was higher demand than we expected!” is the usual excuse. Well, it’s Nikon’s turn again. No excuses this time, though. Just the facts.

While the shortage might be partially to blame this time around, Nikon has apologised in advance for delayed shipping of some pre-orders for the recently announced Nikon Nikkor Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S macro lens for Z mount mirrorless cameras. They haven’t explicitly stated a reason for the delay, although there are only really two possible causes.
