On 26 May current year, eight climbers went missing in the Indian Himalayas. Sadly, seven of them were found dead 20 days later, presumably by triggering an avalanche. A recently recovered GoPro footage shows what could have been their last minutes before the tragic event.
Just watching people perform extreme sports can be rather unnerving. But have you ever thought what it would be like to be the person who’s filming or photographing these extreme athletes? In this amazing video, Bryant Gumbel of HBO presents you with stories from several extreme photographers. Getting close to death is a part of their job, and their stories are fascinating and sometimes chilling.
On Thursday morning, a tourist plunged to his death in Grand Canyon while taking photos. The accident happened at Eagle Point near Skywalk, and a helicopter retrieved the man’s body 1,000ft below the rim.
On December 20th, 2018, a winter storm in the City of White Rock, British Columbia, Canada made for some dramatic photos and resulted in the helicopter rescue of one man.
The event started out as a photo walk with my adult daughter. Waves were crashing against the shoreline as we walked along the promenade which is a pathway usually busy with walkers. The wind was blowing in strong gusts and picking up water with it.
It’s a sad fact that several times a year, we hear about deaths caused by accidental fall at famous tourist spots and photo destinations. The latest tragedy happened to a 14-year-old girl, who was found dead below the Horseshoe Bend overlook in Arizona.
Have you seen the viral drone footage of mama bear and her cub trying to climb up a snow-covered mountain? The baby loses its footing several times and slides back down, but eventually manages to join his mom at the top.
Many people have interpreted this video as a metaphor for determination, but biologists who saw it have a different opinion. The determined baby bear inspired a lot of motivational posters and caused a lot of “awwws.” However, it was apparently the drone that made the animals run in panic in the first place.
Last week in Zimbabwe, a German tourist was trampled to death by an elephant when she tried to get closer and take a photo of the animal. The officials said that the 49-year-old woman was attacked by the elephant, and she later succumbed to her injuries.
It is forbidden to fly drones near airports, and if you do it, you can cause a huge chaos. However, there are still people who don’ seem to care about it, and they keep flying their drones near airports and even near airplanes. Like this dude, who flew his drone dangerously close to an airplane during the takeoff.
The wedding day should be a day to remember, and photos and videos of the event are there to preserve the happy memories. However, some memories aren’t full of love and joy, such as the moment when this couple nearly escaped being hit by a huge tree branch. Luckily, no one got hurt, and Freddy Hernandez of F&J Productions found some humor in the situations. He managed to shoot the dangerous moment, and he even included it in the wedding video.
Drones can cause quite a mess when flying near airports, and there’s even a visualization demonstrating just how chaotic it gets up in the sky. Still, some drone pilots don’t give up on performing stunts dangerously close to airplanes and airports. Just recently, a drone operator “dive-bombed” a passenger airplane and flew directly in its path. The video was posted privately to a Facebook group, but it soon reached FAA and they’re currently investigating the incident.
