First Hands-On Review of the Nikon D810A

Nikon’s dedicated astrophotography camera isn’t planned to start shipping until next week, but Swedish astrophotographer Göran Strand was lucky enough to get his hands on a D810A for a review.

The review includes high ISO noise comparisons between the D800E, D810, D810A and D3s, and covers some of the camera’s new astro-oriented features.

Göran also shares sample images of daylight photos and tests how well this camera performs, despite Nikon’s recommendation not to use it for ‘general photography’.

Canon Rumored to Be Working on a Full Frame Astrophotography Camera

Not wanting to leave the astrophotography market to Nikon’s upcoming D810A, Canon is said to be working on its own dedicated full frame camera.

When the D810A was announced Nikon said it will start shipping in late May, so any day now, but its Canon competitor is expected to be released only in 2016.

Could we see a Canon 5D Mark IVa?

Nikon D810A Announced. Not Recommended For General Use.

Nikon’s first dedicated astrophotography DSLR promises to be the deep-sky photographer’s new best friend. Offering everything the D810 has to give, as well as some very useful new features specifically designed for astrophotography, this camera will take your photos to new heights.

The only downside of the D810A, at least until the price is announced, is that it is designed exclusively for astrophotography.

Even if you’re not into astronomy, these sample photos will make you want to get this camera.

UPDATE: the price has been announced – $3,800.

Leaked: Nikon D810a Astrophotography Camera Specifications

Exactly one week ago we reported that Nikon is rumored to release a version of the D810 which will be optimized for astrophotography, and today the camera’s specifications have leaked.

Adding new features useful specifically for astrophotographers, the camera will be usable for daily photography as well.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
