This jaw-dropping image of tornado on the Sun took nearly 100,000 photos to create

Last week, a massive 14-Earths-tall tornado was spotted on the Sun’s surface. It was a real treat for everyone who watched it, even just in a video. But photographers Andrew McCarthy and Jason Guenzel did more than just observe. The two photographers teamed up and captured the solar tornado in an exquisite 140 MP image.

It took 200,000 photos, tons of data, and several days to complete, but it was worth it. The duo ended up with a jaw-dropping, super-sharp image of the incredible phenomenon. And I’m happy to say that they shared it with DIYP, along with some info about how they took it.

Photographer “goes to Moon” for this photo of Mars… without leaving his backyard

It’s not common anymore that I come across photos on Instagram, especially those that stop me in my tracks. But when it happens – oh boy do I get amazed! One of the people who always blows my mind with his images is Andrew McCarthy, and it happened the other day with his latest image of Mars and the Moon.

The celestial objects were perfectly lined for a shot that looks like it was taken from the Moon. Of course, we can’t go there (yet), and Andrew didn’t even leave his backyard for this image. He told DIYP a bit more about how he took it and shared the magnificent photos with our readers so we can all admire it together.

Photographer captures iconic “Pillars of Creation” from his own backyard

Pillars of Creation is undoubtedly one of the most iconic photos that NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has ever taken. The Hubble mission has cost approximately $16 billion, so have you ever thought that the magnificent Eagle Nebula could be captured from your own backyard, with a modest telescope?

Well, astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy (previously) did. So he set up his telescope in his backyard, pointed it at the Eagle Nebula, and ended up with his own take on the iconic Pillars of Creation.

It took six hours and 400,000 images to shoot this timelapse of massive solar activity

Whenever I see Andrew McCarthy’s name pop up on my Instagram feed, I know I’ll see and read something amazing. This time, this creative astrophotographer blew my mind with a timelapse of a massive active region of the Sun. It took Andrew solid six hours of observation and shooting this incredible sight, but judging from the end result, it was more than worth it.
