Panasonic teamed up with India’s Dentsu Aegis Network to make a special camera that could be a game-changer for colorblind photographers. The two companies developed a Lumix DC-G95 with special EVF which enables colorblind photographers to see colors accurately as they shoot. In a recent video from Panasonic India, you can hear a colorblind photographer’s story and see his moving reaction as he uses the camera for the first time.
A touching moment when colorblind photographer sees full colors of sunrise for the first time
There are quite a few colorblind photographers out there. While this doesn’t stop them from creating fascinating photos, it doesn’t come without its challenges. Canadian photographer David Wilder is colorblind and it was only recently that he saw full colors for the first time. His friend Rachel Jones Ross filmed his wonderful reaction as he put EnChroma glasses and discovered full colors of a sunrise. You can watch it in the video below, but be warned: you might need a tissue. I know I did.
A black and white photography challenge by a colourblind photographer
Earlier this year I wrote what I felt was quite a personal article about what it is like to be a colourblind photographer. In the coming weeks and months after writing and publishing it (and having it widely re-shared across some very big photography blogs) I had contact with so many other colourblind photographers who reached out to me to thank me for putting into words something many of us struggle to explain to others. One particular email was from a mother whose young son is also colourblind thanking me for giving her hope and opening up her eyes to not treating it as a physical disability. But on the flip side to the incredible conversations that I had with people who either understood what I was explaining, or who knew someone who was colourblind, there were also several rather negative conversations and comments from the typical anonymous trolls urging me to quit photography, or questioning my ability to be able to sell my work or offer the professional workshops I do.
Datacolor want your colours perfect with this complete profiling system in a box
Bundles are good. We like bundles. Especially when they contain a bunch of items that are actually useful. One such bundle is the new Spyder5CAPTURE PRO kit by Datacolor. Based around the Spyder5ELITE monitor calibrator, it seems to offer a complete solution from capture to computer.
The kit also includes the SpyderCHECKR, SpyderCUBE and SpyderLENSCAL. Bought separately, this would cost around $425, and if you care about colour accuracy would be worth every penny. But right now, a special introductory price means you can everything for only $269. When you consider that the Spyder5ELITE costs $265 just on its own, that’s a hell of a saving.
See How Color Blind Photographer Captures Amazing Colors
Here is a photography twist on “more than meets the eye”. Photographer Tomer Razabi is known for his amazing captures of the dead sea. (Head over to his dead sea portfolio for some incredible views.
This is why I was kind of surprised to learn that Tomer is actually color blind. I thought that this was pretty weird as his photographs are extremely vivid and true. He made those photos to explain how he sees the world. Imagine this: the leading photo is kinda close to reality (a little saturated, right, but not that far off); the photo after the jump is how Tomer sees the world.
