Have you ever obsessed over instagraming (or “gramming”*) your coffee rather that spend quality time with the person you are having that coffee with? I know I have. I know I have asked my buddies to use their phones as kicker lights; I know I have used menus as reflectors and I sure as heck know that I used random objects around me to “frame” that perfect dish.

I did not, however, bring Arri lights, get a set coordinator, a producer and a yahoo. I also never had a comm system set up just to take a coffee shot (sorry, had to).

You can’t always have hot boiling water in every shoot or have really hot food (or frankly, sometimes it is just easier to do in post), yet there are times when you need to have steam. How to Perfectly Capture Steam in Food Photography

I normally hangout at a local coffee shop editing photos because it’s easier for me to concentrate (plus free electricity and air condition… not always easy to find those in the Philippines). On my last visit I saw a person holding a cup of steaming hot coffee and thought of this article. This will be a 2 part article on getting good steam shots for coffee shots or food photography.

How To Create The Tastiest Vintage Themed Coffee Ad

I recently did a vintage themed coffee ad and documented the process to show what goes into making stuff like this.

While the ad is centered around the product packaging rather than its content (more on that further down), the basic idea was to return the object, a coffee tin from the 1960’s Denmark, to its own time period in a nostalgic veil of bygone times, playing on atmosphere rather than the practical benefits of coffee.

Photo Lovers and Coffee Lovers United – The Best Coffe Shop For Photographers Is In South Korea

Dreaming Camera Cafe in South Korea is probably the only coffee shop in the world where photographers can drink their Lattes inside a Rolleiflex.

The two-story cafe is modeled after a Rolleiflex TLR, and unless you knew better, you’d probably think it was shopped into the scene above.
