New Leica M10-P ASC 100 Edition is the Leica M for cinematographers

Shortly after launching a Safari version of M10-P camera and Summicron-M 50mm f/2 lens, Leica announces another limited edition of the M10-P. The Leica M10-P ASC 100 Edition is coming soon to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Society of Cinematographers. It’s introduced as “an exclusive tool for filmmakers,” although it won’t shoot video.

The “cinematic look” is definitely something we talk a lot about, both in terms of photography and cinematography. There are many tutorials for achieving this look, and yet, the definition is quite vague. It seems all of us have a different perception of what makes an image or a video cinematic. Is it the lens, the lighting, color grading, the story, or something else? We can argue whether it’s easier or harder for the young cinematographers today to display their work to the wide audience. No matter which point of view each of us takes, we can agree over one thing – it’s definitely very different today than it was 20 or 30 years ago.
