Do you remember that awesome timelapse from a couple of years ago of 30 days at sea compressed down into 10 minutes by Jeff Tsang? Well, he’s going to give it another go. Only this time, he’s building a massive 24K resolution 360° waterproof camera rig in order to shoot it.

In this video, he breaks down all the gear he’s using to build the giant 360° camera rig, along with how and why it’s all been chosen. It’s a pretty mammoth project, especially considering he says it probably won’t earn back the purchase price, but boy is it impressive!

Use USB power banks to get hours more shooting time out of your camera

The more features that get packed into each new generation of cameras, the less time batteries seem to last. Things like liveview, gps, WiFi, NFC, VR/IS, and a host of other doohickies just drain them faster than they used to. Even if your camera doesn’t feature superfluous battery draining features, other things can kill them quickly, too. Shooting video or timelapse with long exposures, for example.

The obvious choice is simple. Take a bunch of spare batteries. But what if you want more time without having to worry about interrupting your sequence to swap out a battery? That’s where USB power comes in. This video from David at 30Five Millimeter shows you how you can get USB power with your DSLR or mirrorless camera with just a dummy battery and a $5 cable.

Quick Tip: How to get X12 more time than the Sony camera battery

If you are shooting with a Sony camera, you know that they eat and spit batteries faster than I eat M&Ms. One trivial options is carry another set of batteries (though originals are about $45 each). What I am doing is using off the shelf power banks to run the Sony for much longer than its original battery.

First look at Case Air App and hands on with Case Air

Looking at the Tether Tools Case Air was an interesting experience. It promises the same Camranger experience at half the cost, and a significantly lighter package.  (we covered its kickoff here)

I have used the Camranger before on tradeshows and it was very smooth. The Case Air appears to be no different. It provides several nice functions: sending the files you shoot into a tablet/computer; A basic monitor; some focus peaking and so on.
