Canon’s high resolution (90-MP?) EOS R mirrorless camera being field tested, report says

Last week, it was reported that the high-resolution 50-megapixel Canon EOS 5DS and 5DSR DSLRs had ceased production. While Canon still hasn’t confirmed this, and you can still currently buy one, it makes a lot of sense to kill off this camera now, with 40+ megapixels starting to become more common with the likes of the Nikon D850 & Z7 and Sony A7R IV.

There have been rumours of a super-high-resolution Canon EOS R mirrorless camera for quite a while now, but we haven’t heard much lately. Now, though, Canon Rumors is reporting that such a camera is being tested with select photographers.

Canon’s end of year financial report drops hints about new EOS R cameras and RF lenses

Canon has released its 2019 end of year financial results and presentation, in which Canon highlight how they’ve done over the last year, and also talks a little about what we can expect in the future. If you want to see the financial side of things you can click the links above, but what was particularly interesting, is Canon’s quite surprising focus on new specific new EOS R bodies and RF lenses.

Canon to rejoin the megapixel race with an 80+ megapixel EOS R mirrorless camera

Sony’s 61-megapixel A7R IV caused quite the splash when it was announced, becoming the highest resolution full-frame camera out there. Canon’s ageing 50-megapixel 5DS and 5DSR bodies were the previous champions, but they’re getting a little long in the tooth. According to a report on Canon Rumors, though, Canon is preparing to reclaim the throne with an 80+ megapixel EOS R body.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. His work has been featured in various publications and he has worked with notable brands such as Skoda, EE, Boeing, Huawei, Microsoft, BMW, Conde Nast, Electronic Arts, Discovery, BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, NBC, and many others.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
