A thriving photographer was recently in the middle of a very weird story involving her camera. Her mom accidentally donated her Canon R6 Mark II to a Goodwill where it was sold for $70. This led to a massive emotional rollercoaster and huge support from the TikTok community. They helped to trace the couple who’d bought the camera, and it all led to even more kindness from Canon themselves.
Canon apologises already for Canon EOS R8 delays
In what might come as completely unexpected and shocking news to some but comes as absolutely no surprise to most of us, Canon has updated its apology announcement. The apology is for delays in the shipping and availability of certain products. It was updated last November to add the then newly announced products, the Canon EOS R7 and Canon EOS R6 Mark II.
Those two cameras are still on the list, but now with the addition of the recently announced Canon EOS R8. The EOS RP (and EOS R) successor was announced only a week ago, but Canon already cannot keep up with the – apparently unexpected – demand.
Canon updates the list of delayed products it can’t supply fast enough to meet demand
Canon, like just about every other manufacturer, is facing camera shortages. Back in March, they announced a list going over those shortages and what we’re going to have to wait for. The bad news is that list still exists and rather than keep posting new announcements each time, they’re just updating the old one. The new list still contains a number of products, and some of those products remain the same, although there are some new ones.
The good news, however, is that Canon doesn’t mention 6-month+ waits in the list, as they did in March and there are far fewer products on it than this time last year. The list has changed to include new items, though, like the EOS R7 and the EOS R6 Mark II, Canon says that they are shipping in order but may take longer to deliver than usual, but the wait, it seems, perhaps won’t be as long as they have been.
Canon already sorry for delays on the newly announced EOS R6 Mark II
Canon announced three brand new products last week: the EOS R6 mark II, the RF 135mm 1.8 L lens, and the EL-5 speedlight designed for the mirrorless range of camera bodies. However, an announcement on Canon’s Japanese site was posted just two days later, apologizing already for delays to these products.
Of course, delays on camera equipment and indeed on many products since the start of the pandemic in 2020 is nothing new. This is basically just a part of the ongoing logistical delays and chip shortage.
Canon gets into its next generation mirrorless with the EOS R6 Mark II – 24MP 40fps stills and 6K ProRes RAW video
Canon has refreshed its popular EOS R6 mirrorless camera with a new Canon EOS R6 Mark II. Externally, the two cameras look extremely similar, but the new camera offers some significant upgrades over its predecessor with a new sensor, focus breathing correction and an EOS R3-like autofocus system with improved AI tracking. A brand new IBIS system also offers up to 8 stops of stabilisation.
While the EOS R6 Mark II offers the same 12fps continuous shooting mode with the mechanical shutter as the EOS R6, you now get up to 40fps with the electronic shutter. There’s also a new Raw Burst mode that shoots 30fps with 0.5 seconds of pre-capture. Great for responding to quick events and actions as they’re happening. There are also new shooting modes including a multiple exposure mode (jpg only) and panorama mode.
Canon expected to announce the updated EOS R6 Mark II in just two days
Canon is apparently all set to announce both the EOS R6 Mark II and the RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM lens on November 2nd. Or at least that’s what some very strong rumors are suggesting anyway after Canon placed some teasers recently. The updated version of the popular mirrorless camera the EOS R6 has been speculated to be coming soon for a while now, however, this is the first time we have seen any sign of when it will be announced.
Prices and specs have also been released on the Canon Watch site. However, these are very much still rumors and nothing has been made certain yet.
