Hot on the heels of Canon EOS R5 rumours, it seems Canon may be getting ready to announce an EOS R6, too. A lower resolution camera, possibly as a mirrorless followup to the Canon EOS 6D Mark II, this camera is expected to be around 20-megapixels, and offer 4K video at 60 frames per second.

There aren’t really many specs just yet, even rumoured ones, but with Canon rumoured to be releasing four new full-frame cameras in 2020, and three of them being mirrorless, it adds up.

The Canon EOS R has proven to be somewhat popular. But so as to not put all their eggs in one basket, and to not eat into potential sales of a future model, it certainly wasn’t the perfect camera Canon shooters had hoped they’d release to compete with Sony’s latest round of mirrorless cameras.

So, this will make, what? 4 new Canon bodies expected in the relatively near future? There’s the EOS 1DX Mark III, an EOS 1DX-like mirrorless, a super high resolution “EOS Rs” and now an EOS R Mark II is already being tested, according to Canon Rumors.

The Canon EOS R was announced only just over a year ago in September 2018, and it seems crazy to replace it so quickly, although a Mark II was already rumoured to be on Canon’s roadmap as recently as October. The EOS R, while rather good, isn’t perfect, and Canon is playing catch up to Sony in some respects, so a short initial release cycle isn’t too crazy.

Well, that didn’t seem to take long. According to a report on Canon Rumors, Canon has already added an EOS R Mark II to their internal roadmap, along with an EOS 5D Mark V DSLR. CR didn’t say exactly where the information came from, just that they were not provided with a timeline for the roadmap, although they don’t expect either of them to come along before Q4 of 2020.
