People seem to have been switching over to the Sony A7RIII faster than I can blink. I’ve seen quite a few switching from both Nikon and Canon since its announcement. But it seems there’s one area where Sony still falls somewhat short. Weather sealing. It’s always been their Achilles heel, but people had been hoping it’s improved with the A7RIII. As this weather sealing test from Imaging Resource shows, it hasn’t.

Just 20 days ago, Nikon D850 was crowned the best DSLR ever, according to DxO tests. It was the first camera to reach the overall score of 100, but now there’s a new winner. Hasselblad X1D-50c, medium format mirrorless camera, has won the overall score of 102. According to DxO, it’s now the best commercially-available medium-format sensor you can get. Nikon D850 is an impressive camera, at least on paper. Guys from The Camera Store TV decided to put it on a thorough hands-on field test. In their latest video, Chris Niccolls and Jordan Drake visit Bend, Oregon to try out the camera for, video, stills and even 8K/24p timelapse. They talk about good and bad sides honestly, so if you’re still thinking whether D850 is worth the upgrade or not – this video should give you a pretty decent insight.

We’re starting to see more and more sample footage from the much anticipated Sony A7R ii, which is due to start shipping August 5th. U.K. based photographer, Jon Roberts, recently got his hands on one of the cameras and was nice enough to whip up this noise test, which compares the A7R II to it’s predecessor the A7R and, also, a Canon 5D MKiii. Roberts’ notes “that this wasn’t a very scientific test under lab circumstances…more of a rough and ready preview!”; however, it’s still a solid comparison with 100% crops.

The same goes for the rolling shutter test video Roberts has shared with us, which you’ll see farther down in this post along with an unboxing video–but, we’ll get to those in a minute.

First, take a look at the noise test. You can click the image to open a full size version in a new browser windor, or take a look at it over on Flickr.[Read More…]

A few months ago, Sony unveiled its new flagship smartphone: the Xperia Z2, which is still awaiting its release. One of the taglines for the phone called the Z2’s gear “the world’s best smartphone camera”. And it seems like the company may not be exaggerating at all. The phone just scored a 79 out of 100 on the DxOMark Mobile Scale, which puts it above Nokia’s 41 Megapixel 808 PureView as the highest rated smartphone camera out there.
