It might seem odd to bring out a Sony RX100 V refresh right now having just announced the RX100 VI. One would simply assume that the RX100 VI would be the RX100 V replacement, but apparently not.
It looks like the newly announced Sony RX100 VA is its real replacement. Essentially the same as the RX100 V, it does see some updates. It includes the processor and firmware from the RX100 VI but does miss some of the hardware improvements.
It’s finally here, the camera that many Sony shooters have been waiting for. The update to the gateway camera that convinced many to switch over to Sony’s system. Today, Sony has announced the new Sony Alpha A7III. With 4K video, dual card slots, 693 autofocus points, and 10fps continuous shooting, it’s a nice little boost over the previous generation Sony A7II – a camera which is now heavily discounted, by the way.
Looking like a cut-down Sony A9, the A7III also has pretty ridiculous battery life – for a mirrorless camera, at least. Boasting 710 shots on a full charge it beats everything else out there in mirrorlessland, and is stepping into DSLR territory. It also has an increased ISO range of 100-51200, expandable ISO50-204800 with 5-axis in-body stabilisation, effective up to 5 stops.
The selfie-centric Olympus Pen E-PL9 has been announced. This entry-level Micro Four Thirds camera from Olympus has seen a couple of nice new updates over the previous generation Pen E-PL8. For a start, there’s 4K UHD video, as well as 120fps slow motion at 720p (a first for the Pen line of cameras). It has a redesigned grip to help get a more confident hold on the camera, especially when shooting selfies, with a new internal popup flash.
It seems that this year is the time for comebacks of the legends. Judging from the latest YouTube video and a website launch, it seems that Yashica is about to make a comeback, too. The legendary Japanese camera brand hasn’t been around for a while, but looks like we can expect a comeback after all.
Nikon’s D5600 entry level DSLR has been available in some parts of the world for a couple of months now. At first it wasn’t looking like it was going to be released in the USA at all. Today, however, Nikon have officially announced the Nikon D5600 in the USA. It’s a minor update to the D5500, but it offers potentially significant workflow differences, depending on what and how you shoot.
The first is the addition of BlueTooth, which brings the Nikon D5x00 product range in line with the new SnapSeed protocol. For timelapse shooters, you now have the ability to convert your stills sequence straight to video instead of keeping individual files. Handy if you’re more worried about storage space than quality. Finally, you can now scrub through your images in playback mode using the touchscreen LCD.
As we’re only days away from CES 2017, YI – who named themselves GoPro killers – has announced their plans for the a New action camera. It seems their YI 4K Action Camera (which we reviewed here) is about to get the update. This January in Las Vegas, YI is about to present their new 4K+ Action Camera, which will allow you shooting 4K videos at 60 fps. They’ve also revealed more details about their upcoming YI Erida drone and announced to fly it live for the first time.
When Hasselblad founder, Victor Hasselblad was approached by the Swedish government in 1941 to see if he had the skills to produce a camera identical to one they had captured, his famous reply was “No, but I can make a better one”.
Today, rather than taking the typical route of camera releases and simply updating the model that preceded it, Hasselblad still looks even at their own products with this same mindset and philosophy in order to develop cameras like the all new H6D from the ground up.
There’s been rumors circulating around for quite some time now about Nikon releasing their next full-frame DSLR this summer. After a good amount of time, it’s finally official: according to Nikon Rumors, it’s confirmed that the next DSLR from Nikon will be announced on June 26.
What do we know about it so far? For starters, this is the camera that’s meant to replace the company’s D800/E line; no actual information is given out on the next model’s name, but it could be anything from an Apple-esque “S” upgrade to something completely different. For now, most people are going with the former option: the D800s. The new camera is reported to be manufactured in Thailand.
While we’re awaiting the unveiling, keep on the lookout for more deals on Nikon D800/E cameras from here on. Considering the replacement’s on the horizon, this can be a great time to start looking for price cuts on the older models.
