It’s always difficult to tell whether information on Fujifilm cameras is actually a leak or a… “leak”. Fuji’s always had a bit of a playful relationship with leaks, even parodying them to market the Fuji GFX 100S. But as always seem to happen when Fuji (or just about any manufacturer) is getting ready to announce a new camera, the leaks inevitably come.

We’ve already had a little info on the Fujifilm X-T5 as well as mention of an upcoming XF 30mm f/2.8 R LM WR lens to be announced on the same day, but now we have pretty much the entire spec sheet, along with a few specs on the new lens.

It looks like Fuji fans won’t have long to wait for a replacement for their two-and-a-half-year-old X-T4. It looks like they’re going to be announcing the X-T5 on November 2nd if the rumours are correct. And it looks like most of the specs have leaked out already, too. According to several posts on Fuji Rumors, the new X-T5 will cost around $1,699 and contain the same 40-megapixel sensor of the Fujifilm X-H2.

It looks like the new Fujifilm X-T5 will be officially announced on November 2nd, as Fujifilm has scheduled a live X Summit Tokyo 2022 event for that date on YouTube. November 2nd at 1pm GMT (8am Eastern and 5am Pacific, for those in the US). While no official specs have been released yet – or even mention of an X-T5 – there have obviously been rumours.

Sony’s new A7R V comes with a completely new AF system and 8 stops of 5-axis stabilisation

As expected, Sony has today announced their new high-resolution mirrorless camera, the Sony A7R V. If you were hoping for another big resolution jump, though, don’t get too excited. Unlike the A7R IV, which bumped up the A7R III’s 42-megapixel sensor up to a 61-megapixel sensor, the new A7R V keeps the 61-megapixel resolution of its predecessor. It does come with a lot of new features and hardware, though.

For a start, it has an entirely new autofocus system with AI deep learning capabilities. The autofocus system takes the A7R IV’s 567 AF phase detection points and brings it up to an impressive 693 points. It shoots 8K 24fps video (cropped) and full sensor readout 4K video at up to 60 frames per second. It also features the heat sink design of the Sony A7S III, allowing it to record 8K video for up to 30 minutes without overheating.

The OM System OM-5 is just an Olympus OM-D E-M5 III with a built-in ND filter

Well, we knew it was coming and much of the information was leaked yesterday, but now we officially have the rest of it, along with a price. OM System has now announced the OM-5 mirrorless camera. Styled very much like the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III and coming in at the same $1,199 price point, the new OM-5 essentially carries on that product line. But looking at the specs, it’s difficult to see what’s really changed.

But there have been a couple of changes. For a start, it has the newer generation TruePic IX image processor and brings an extra stop to the sensor-shift image stabilisation. One (the only) standout feature of the OM-5 over the E-M5 Mark III, though, is that it features a built-in 4-stop electronic ND filter for long exposures and video shooters.

Leica has officially announced the Leica M6 reissue – their film camera launch in over 20 years

Leica has officially announced the Leica M6 reissue. It’s a relaunch of its popular M6 35mm film camera and the first new film camera that Leica has launched in over two decades. In fact, it’s been 20 years since Leica stopped making the original M6 back in 2002. It was initially launched in 1984 and Leica says they’ve handmade almost 175,000 Leica M6 cameras, serving photographers all over the world.

Leica says that the return of the legendary rangefinder “bring[s] back a cultural icon for a new generation to experience”. The new generation will be paying a lot more for those film and development costs than the last M6 generation did, of course, if you’ve got the money to splash out on a Leica, that’s probably not much of a concern.

Well, we’d heard rumours that there was a new vlogging camera on the way, although the likely announcement date was the Sony event scheduled for October 26th before the Sony Creative Space event in New York on the 27th and 28th. Well, it may be a little earlier than anticipated but Sony has today announced the Sony ZV-1F vlogging camera, an update to the original Sony ZV-1.

The Sony ZV-1F is similar to the Sony ZV-1 in a number of respects, featuring the same 20.1-megapixel resolution and 921,600 dot flippy out touchscreen LCD, but with a fixed 20mm equivalent f/2 prime lens instead of a 24-70mm equivalent zoom and 4K UHD video upgraded from 30fps to 60fps.

Leica is reissuing the Leica M6 35mm film camera on October 20th with a €4,800 price tag

The Leica M6 film camera is one of the most collectable and sought-after film cameras out there on the used market. They’re not that expensive, either, regularly selling for around €3,000-3,500 or so. But if you want one brand new with a full warranty, then you’ll soon be able to do exactly that. Leica is apparently planning to reissue the Leica M6 rangefinder and it’s rumoured to be announced on October 20th.

Unlike most camera companies, Leica didn’t really stop making film cameras and you can still buy new ones today. The Leica MP, for example, a fully mechanical version of the Leica M7, can be yours for $5,695. But the M6 is one that’s thought of quite fondly amongst Leica shooters. If you want one, you’ll have to be quick, though. It’s rumoured that it’s going to be a limited edition run of only 500 cameras.

Sony officially announces the new FX30 APS-C cinema camera – basically an FX3 with a Super35 sensor

It’s only 18 months since Sony released the full-frame Sony FX3, a compact cinema camera based on much of the same tech found in the Sony A7S III but with a design better suited to filmmaking. It’s been a popular camera – and we just used two of them for our IBC coverage in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago – but now there is a new contender.

Sony has today officially announced the new Sony FX30, which is essentially an APS-C (or Super 35mm, if you prefer) version of the FX3. With that smaller sensor also comes a slightly smaller price tag, bringing that FX3 cost down from around $3,900 to only $1,798 for the FX30. But is it a like-for-like comparison? Or does the FX30 make a few compromises beyond the sensor size?

The Insta360 X3 shoots massive 72-megapixel stills, 8K timelapse and 120fps bullet time

It’s that time again. Insta360’s announced another camera. This time it’s the Insta360 X3; the successor to the Insta360 ONE X2 (review here) – although they’ve dropped the “ONE” bit from the naming system now. But how does it compare to its predecessor? What’s different? What’s new? Is it really any better?

I’ve had the opportunity to test one for the last couple of weeks and in some ways, it’s definitely an improvement over the ONE X2. It comes with some very useful new features including upgraded 1/2″ sensors that shoot up to 72-megapixel 360° stills, 8K timelapse, a larger touchscreen display and some new shooting modes.

Sony’s new FR7 is the world’s first pan-tilt-zoom camera to feature a full-frame sensor and interchangeable lenses

Sony has announced the new Sony FR7, a motorised remote control pan-tilt-zoom camera that features a full-frame CMOS sensor and Sony E mount. The FR7 represents the world’s first full-frame PTZ camera with interchangeable lenses and opens up a lot of potential options for studio use, live production and even filmmaking. It features a 10.3MP BSI sensor with 15+ stops of dynamic range with ISOs up to 409,600.

PTZ cameras have traditionally been more in the realm of security cameras, allowing you to keep an eye on people on your premises doing things that they shouldn’t be. But adding this kind of movement capability to “real cameras” has become more common, particularly with the influx of gimbals over the past several years that offer some level of remote control. Now, Sony’s skipping the whole gimbal thing and building it right into the camera with the FR7.
