It seems that retro-looking music videos and even short clips on Instagram have been all the rage lately. Sure, you can add a filter to make them look as if they were taken with a VHS camcorder, but as Caleb Pike puts it: “we ALL know it’s not really the same thing.” If you want the real deal, you can still shoot with a 1980s camcorder in 2020. In this video, Caleb will show you how to do it. He will even show you how to pimp it to add a few modern features while keeping the vintage feel in the footage itself.

To compare a $50 camera to a $50,000 camera might seem a little unfair. And maybe it is, but whoever said that life was supposed to be fair? A battle between two video cameras at such opposite ends of the budget scale, though, does highlight some very interesting points. Such extremes illustrate the things to look out for when buying any camera.

In this video, Niko Pueringer from Corridor Digital performs exactly this comparison. Pitting a $50 used Sony Handycam HDRCX405 against $50,000 worth of RED Dragon 6K. The RED rig has actually cost the team $47,229 over the last three years, but they decided $50K had a better ring to it. Watch the video to see how the two compare.

Earlier today, the 2014 Mobile World Congress took place in Barcelona, and it came packed with quite a few noteworthy stories. Nokia announced the immediate release of not one, but three Android-powered mid-range smartphone models; HTC announced its next entry to the mid-range Desire, sporting a 13MP camera; Samsung – well – remained Samsung with its overall minor update to the Galaxy S line (but hey – maybe that’s just my inner design critic getting frustrated at how much hasn’t changed about the phone’s look). Even if the Galaxy S5’s been grabbing most of the headlines for MWC, Sony still ended up bringing itself a good amount of attention with the products it unveiled today,

Out of them, the Xperia Z2 was what garnered the most interest. Sony’s latest addition to the Xperia line comes in bold colors, as well as bold promises; the waterproof phone packs a 20.7 megapixel camera, one which the company is proudly calling the “world’s best mobile camera”.
