How this photograph was made in-camera in the middle of the Bolivian salt flats

Fine art photographer Gray Malin recently published the second instalment of his Far Far Away series. It’s an interesting and somewhat abstract set of images shot in the Bolivian salt flats, Salar de Uyuni. One particular image involved transporting 500 bananas out into the middle of the salt flats, to create a huge pile of them.

You might think the image is Photoshopped and indeed all is not quite as it seems, but the image was created entirely in-camera. In this video, Gray shows and talks to us about how he did it.

Photographer captures amazing photos of the Milky Way over the mirrored salt flats of Bolivia

Astrophotography is one of those genres I love to admire from a distance. I’ve tried it occasionally and failed miserably every time. I’m sure most of it is down to my technique, although I’m going to blame clouds and light pollution anyway. I’d love to be good at it, but it’s just not going to happen.

So, when I see work from people like Russian landscape photographer, Daniel Kordan, I am both amazed and impressed. During a recent visit to Sala de Uyuni in Bolivia, Daniel managed to capture something incredible. The Milky Way reflecting off the surface of the flooded salt flats.

A Serenity Inspiring Timelapse Shot At Uyuni – The Largest Sea Salt In The World

Many of the timelapses that we feature here are heavy on the drama. It feels like a breath of fresh air to feature a timelapse that is all about peace and serenity.

This beautiful timelapse was shot by Enrique Pacheco about a month ago in the sea salt of Uyuni, Bolivia.

This salt sea produced the most perfect reflections which Enrique uses cleverly to create perfectly symmetrical compositions and framing.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
