Mirrorless cameras dominate as winners of the 2022 TIPA awards

The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has announced the winners of the 2022 TIPA World Awards. Just like every year, there are plenty of cameras and lenses awarded, covering a wide range of categories. But there are also imaging software, video, lighting, monitors, camera phones, and inkjet papers and printers. In a word, everything that makes up the photo industry and that you need in life as a professional or amateur photographer.

As I mentioned in the title, mirrorless cameras have shown absolute dominance in their category this year. So, let’s see what are the best cameras according to TIPA, and of course, we’ll go through other gear as well.

Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has announced its list of the best photo gear items for 2021. This year marks the Association’s 30th anniversary, and according to the 2021 best gear list – everyone got a present this year. Among the top 40 products from the photo industry, there are nearly all major gear manufacturers.

So I’m down at the dock at the cottage and I decided that I wanted to snap a photo of my coffee to post a fairly typical, quick and easy Instagram banger.

Since the purpose of this photo was straight to social, I arranged the composition and then pulled out my phone to snap the picture (because why would a manufacturer build a camera with Android to be able to do this on an actual camera…).

After snapping the photo, I decided that it actually looked pretty decent – nice enough that I had to run back up to the cottage to grab my DSLR with an 85mm f/1.4…because, well, you know…bokeh.

Thinking of buying a new lens, but not sure which one you’d like? There’s a new fun website called What the Lens, and it helps you choose the lens based on the photos you like. After the fun website that helps you find your film soulmate, this one pairs you and your camera with the perfect lens.

Photographer Willie C created the website to help undecided photographers pick out the lens that would be best for them. It analyzes the exif data of the photos you choose and suggest a lens based on them.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. His work has been featured in various publications and he has worked with notable brands such as Skoda, EE, Boeing, Huawei, Microsoft, BMW, Conde Nast, Electronic Arts, Discovery, BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, NBC, and many others.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
