When it first showed up, BeReal seemed like a breath of fresh air among all those social media filled with filtered faces, staged lives, and fake smiles. This app was dubbed “anti-Instagram,” as its goal was to have the users share the genuine, unstaged moments of their lives.

But is BeReal losing its point only a few months after its launch? I have some thoughts about it, and I believe there are two main reasons why this app might fail before it even properly takes off.

It looks like TikTok isn’t just the app other social media are trying to copy. This time, it’s TikTok that’s copying features from another app that’s been rapidly growing in popularity.

That’s right, I’m talking about BeReal. After Instagram, now TikTok now has its own version of real-time dual camera view. It’s called “TikTok Now” and it lets you share “your most authentic moments” with your followers.

BeReal is currently working on an updated feature that will let you see posts by friends of friends. The new feature was noticed by developer Alessandro Paluzzi and he shared the information on Twitter.

The great social media copycat strikes again it seems. Instagram is currently testing out a new feature which bears an uncanny resemblance to the popular app BeReal. Leaker and well-known reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi published screenshots of the feature which is called IG Candid Challenges.

The as-yet-to-be-released feature will live in the story section of the app and will be opt-in. If users choose to participate, they will receive a notification at a different time every day prompting them to take a picture in two minutes. Sounds an awful lot like BeReal to me!

This anti-Instagram photo sharing app wants you to post a photo of whatever you’re doing

Is it just me or is everyone sick of Instagram these days? The once photography-centric sharing app has now morphed into an advertisement heavy look-at-me-fest with an emphasis on video, not even still photographs. Well never mind, because there’s another option in town, the app called BeReal which only lets you post one image a day.

It’s actually not a new app, however. It was launched in 2020 but recently has gained a lot more users and a large following from Gen Zers.
