Instagram turns into BeReal with its new “Candid” feature

We already know that Instagram’s become just a merge of many other apps, but at this point, it’s getting ridiculous. Its latest feature is called “Candid,” and it lets you capture and share what you’re doing right now, with both the front and the back camera taking the photo. Sounds familiar? Yup, it’s the same as BeReal, which is, ironically, marketed as “anti-Instagram.”

Instagram’s latest feature copies “anti-Instagram” app BeReal

Earlier this year, we told you about a new social media app BeReal, nicknamed “anti-Instagram.” Its popularity has been increasing and it recently hit the #1 spot among Apple Store’s free apps. Can you guess what happened? Yup, you’re right, Instagram tried to copy it!

While it’s been known lately for copying TikTok, Instagram took a break from it and changed its focus. Just like BeReal, Instagram now also has a double camera feature that captures your surroundings and yourself simultaneously.

This anti-Instagram photo sharing app wants you to post a photo of whatever you’re doing

Is it just me or is everyone sick of Instagram these days? The once photography-centric sharing app has now morphed into an advertisement heavy look-at-me-fest with an emphasis on video, not even still photographs. Well never mind, because there’s another option in town, the app called BeReal which only lets you post one image a day.

It’s actually not a new app, however. It was launched in 2020 but recently has gained a lot more users and a large following from Gen Zers.

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. His work has been featured in various publications and he has worked with notable brands such as Skoda, EE, Boeing, Huawei, Microsoft, BMW, Conde Nast, Electronic Arts, Discovery, BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, NBC, and many others.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
