Ricoh has now officially announced that their new flagship APS-C DSLR will be the Pentax K-3 Mark III. The news was made official in a progress update on the camera’s development. We’ve seen a couple of sneak peeks and updates in the past and the name was rumoured, although not confirmed until now.

Along with this update, Ricoh has revealed the complete spec list for the new camera, which they hope to officially launch at CP+ 2021, scheduled to take place from February 25-28 in Yokohama, Japan. Of course, as with all such announcement of this type, the spec is subject to change, as is the possibility that CP+ 2021 will go ahead as planned.

Fujifilm just announced its new mid-range X-S10 with six stops of in-body stabilisation

We already knew it was coming, thanks to Nokishita, but now Fuji’s made it official and announced their new Fujifilm X-S10 mid-range APS-C mirrorless camera. And it’s pretty much exactly as the leaked specs and photos said it would be. Essentially, it’s a low budget X-T4 with much of the same (or close) capability.

It packs many of the still-shooting features of Fuji’s X-T4 into a smaller and more affordable body ($1,699 vs $999). It has the same 26-megapixel X-Trans sensor and X-Processor 4 as the X-T4, but with a new in-body image stabilisation system that’s significantly smaller yet still offers up to six stops of stabilising capability.

Pentax reported to be working on a second new APS-C video-focused DSLR

According to a brief post over on Pentax Rumors, Ricoh is rumoured to be working on a second Pentax APS-C DSPR in addition to the long-awaited new flagship APS-C DSLR that’s had Pentax shooters excited for months.

A tweet back in April said that Ricoh has no plans to take Pentax down the mirrorless rabbit hole, instead choosing to stick with DSLRs. It’s been a while since their last solid release, so if Ricoh was planning to make a statement, announcing two new DSLRs in rapid succession would certainly seem to make one.

Panasonic may actually be considering APS-C L Mount cameras

Well, this is interesting… and odd. According to a report on 43Rumors, Panasonic is actually considering an entry-level APS-C camera system based around the Panasonic L-Mount. This would be a big concern for a lot of existing Panasonic (and Olympus) customers who’ve locked themselves into the Micro Four Thirds system, if true.

They say the information comes from “trusted sources” and that they’re “99% confident” that it’s true. But even if it is, all that may be true is that they’re considering it. It’s not 99% true that it’ll actually happen.

Does sensor size matter? Part 2 – What the heck is equivalency?

Equivalency is one of those topics that not only confuses a lot of people but also turns into some pretty heated arguments. It’s why people think that a lens of one focal length “turns” into another when you put it on a camera with a differently sized sensor. It’s why your depth of field both does and doesn’t change at the same time.

The video above was made as a follow-up to a video recently published by The Slanted Lens to ask does size really matter?. Naturally, when comparing medium format, full-frame, APS-C and Micro Four Thirds cameras, each with their own unique sensor sizes, it raises a lot of questions. And it did. So, this video is designed to answer them.

Pentax reveals some details about their new flagship APS-C DSLR

In a video published to the Pentax Photography YouTube channel, Ricoh has revealed some more details on its upcoming new flagship APS-C DSLR. It’s the second part of a series by Pentax (Part 1 is lower down in this post) to “reinforce its commitment to DSLR photography“.

It might seem a little mad to cling onto DSLRs when the rest of the world is going mirrorless, but it seems that Pentax might be looking to capture the segment of the market that just doesn’t want to ditch the mirror.

New Viltrox roadmap shows nine new lenses on the way including Micro Four Thirds cine lenses

Viltrox has posted their updated lens roadmap to Weibo and it shows nine new lenses coming between now and next year. Viltrox is traditionally known more for (relatively) inexpensive lens adapters and various accessories, but they’ve actually been making lenses for a couple of years now for various mirrorless systems including Sony, Fuji, Nikon and L mount.

The new lens roadmap shows Viltrox’s existing 9 lenses along with 9 new ones, expected to come out over the next year or so. There is a mix of Micro Four Thirds, APS-C and full-frame lenses coming and while they don’t mention the mounts for the APS-C and full-frame lenses, I think some can be fairly safe bets.

A 43-megapixel 8K Sony sensor has been “leaked” but could it possibly be real?

Recently, word of a new Sony IMX671AQR sensor was “leaked” via the Fuji Rumors comments. There isn’t much info about it except for what appears to be a screenshot of the first page of a datasheet. That screenshot details a 43-megapixel APS-C camera capable of shooting 12-bit 8K video. But is it for real?

Doubt is starting to be cast on the legitimacy of the leak on a number of sites, and I’m inclined to agree. Given that we’ve still yet to see a replacement for the ageing Sony A7S II or even a legit hint of a new sensor for a theoretical A7S III, I can’t imagine they’d be packing this much power into an APS-C sized sensor already.
