For a digital artist like me getting those unique ideas for my images is one of the most important things. I see the ideas in my dreams, when I read a magazine, when I’m out for a walk, or pretty much anywhere. I have learned that ideas are everywhere if you just allow yourself to see them. When I get the idea I see it in my head as a “flash”. I see pretty much every detail but I need to sketch out that idea fast to my notebook so I won’t forget it.
As a digital artist, I create images that are usually almost unimaginable, optical illusions, interesting concepts, and fantasy worlds. For this, I have to have tools to achieve my visions and this is where my retouching background comes into play. I have been using Photoshop for over 20 years and I know plenty of tricks and tips on how to achieve needed things to produce images just to the way I want.
I consider traveling for my work both as a curse and a blessing; damned be the hours spent away from my family and cozy little home but such a blessing to see the world and meet so many friends, new and old, during my travels. Often my trips have been a source of inspiration for my work, bringing to me visual images, techniques and traditions of a different world.
Antti Karppinen is an Internationally awarded commercial photographer, digital artist, photographer, retoucher and educator from Finland and he belongs to a new generation of image artisans, to whom all things are possible. In the digital era, the most powerful stories will be told in pictures.
It goes without saying that there are many genres of photography and many kinds of photographers. In this amusing video, Antti Karppinen tries to demonstrate what some of them act like. He focused on displaying 30 different types of photographers and the ways they look while taking photos. So, let’s see, can you recognize yourself?
When Fuji announced the then-new X-T2 back in July 2016, it got Fuji shooters very excited, especially the ones interested in video. Fuji now has a 4K video-capable camera in their lineup. They’ve since gone on to add 4K to the X-Pro2 and released the new X-H1, but they haven’t given up on the X-T2 just yet.
Only a month after release, would-be X-T2 owners were complaining that they could only shoot 4K F-Log if they were using an external recorder and not internally. Fujifilm said at the time that they would consider internal F-Log recording. And now they’ve delivered with a new firmware update that adds internal 4K F-Log recording to SD, as well as 120fps 1080p slow motion.
We all make mistakes in photography. All of us. But these are things which help us learn and grow as photographers. We make mistakes, we figure out what went wrong, we correct it and then don’t make that mistake again. Thanks to the modern Internet, though, we can learn from the mistakes of others, too.
In this video, photography Antti Karppinen talks us through 7 of the most common lighting mistakes photographers make shooting portraits in the studio. But he’s also going to show us how we can avoid them, too.
It is not rare that a fictional character gets a dedicated fan photo shoot. Deadpool, Batman and Assassin’s Creed are some of the hardcore characters we’ve featured before, and brave was on the softer side.
With Wonder Woman being such a hit, it’s no wonder that this character is getting some action. We’ve already featured a $1,500 shoot of a young daughter, and now comes the adult version. Digital artist Antti Karppinen put quite a realistic shoot with Mae-rye cosplay and it is stellar and very much true to the movie. Hit the jump to see what some killer cos-playing and photoshop wizardry can bring to life. (+plus you get to see some before and after photos).
Dodging and burning has become as commonplace to Photoshop as it was in the darkroom with film. But in Photoshop it can be a tedious process (even more so than it was in the darkroom). This quick technique from Anti Karppinen shows a very fast way to achieve a similar result in Photoshop.
It all started as a joke. When watching Vikings (History channel’s hit show on HBO Nordic) together with my wife, I pointed out several times that she seemed to share both the looks and a similar attitude with Lagertha -surprisingly similar considering that the other one is a scientist / mom from Finland and the other one a shieldmaiden from 13th century.
