Some wild animals are so incredibly cute that you just want to pick them up and hug them. Many of us know that it’s not good for them, but more and more tourists in Costa Rica ignore this and pick up animals to take selfies. Due to an increased number of selfies that people take with wild animals, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute started a campaign to stop people from doing it.
Photographer captures two bears fighting from just a few feet away
We’ve seen some pretty wacky, scary, and plain stupid encounters of photographers and bears. Finnish photographer Tero Pylkkänen was lucky enough to capture a video of two bears fighting in what he called “best bear fight ever.” Two large brown bears started testing each other’s strength just feet away from the photographer, and he caught their fight on camera.
This photographer got squashed by adorable baby elephant seals
Wildlife photography can be really rewarding, but it doesn’t come without its dangers. Australian photographer Chris Bray recently shared a video via ViralHog showing “the hazards of being a wildlife photographer.” The video shows his wife Jess getting squished by a couple of curious baby elephant seals, and I think this is what cuteness overload looks like.
These vintage cat photos are 100 years old version of LOLcats
I can hardly imagine anyone who doesn’t like funny photos of cats. We often give them human traits and make them seem like they’re doing human things. But photographer Harry Whittier Frees did it “before it was cool.” He dressed cats and posed them with props so it looked as if they were doing human things, and he photographed them like this over 100 years ago!

To serve and protect: photographing the last two living northern white rhinos on the planet
In 2018, Sudan, the last remaining northern white rhino passed away of natural causes at the Ol Pejeta conservancy in Laikipia County, Kenya thus ending the existence of their subspecies.
Not far from Sudan’s grave lives Fatu and Najin (mother and daughter), the last known living northern white rhinos on the planet. A loss of habitat and poaching of their valuable horns to be sold off in the black market for traditional eastern medicinal purposes bound for countries such as China, South Korea, and Vietnam has led to the demise of their species.
Woman attacked by jaguar while shooting selfies at zoo in Arizona
Sadly, it’s not that rare that people get injured or even killed while trying to take selfies with wild animals. On Saturday, 9 March, another case of selfie-related attack occurred when a woman got to close to a zoo fence in order to snap some selfies with a jaguar.
Pig bites Instagram model on the b… beach. What’d you think I was gonna say?
With all the stories of people harassing animals for selfies to post on Instagram and other social media, it’s quite refreshing to see the animals biting back. In this case, quite literally. When fitness model and Instagram star Michelle Lewin went for a wander on the beach in the Bahamas, a local disgruntled grunter decided to come and give her a nip on the backside.
In a shocking twist of events, somebody happened to record the whole thing on their phone. So, naturally, Lewin posted the clip to her Instagram account.
Watch an adorable wild arctic fox making friends with a photographer
Encountering wild animals as you photograph them can sometimes be scary. But other times, it can be so cute that it makes your heart melt. Swiss photographer Stefan Forster recently found a wild white arctic fox in Greenland. As he was taking photos, the fox approached him and started closely examining his camera. Maybe even a bit too closely!
