Profoto has updated the Profoto Camera app with a completely new design that they say was rebuilt from the ground up. Designed to allow you to shoot photos on your smartphone using Profoto lights. Available for iOS and a limited number of Android devices, it offers a lot of new features over the previous basic manual camera app, including ProfotoRAW, a new AirX Smart-TTL algorithm, more accurate white and colour balance, faster response time and more.

The new app adds support for more of Profoto’s lighting products, including the Profoto A10, B10, B10 Plus, Pro-11, C1 and C1 Plus. And while it is primarily designed for use with iPhones, it’s also compatible with select Android devices, too.

Profoto has announced that they’ve expanded their recently announced AirX Smart-TTL functionality to Android, allowing you to shoot photos using your Android smartphone with your Profoto lights. The software is currently in beta and is compatible with the Profoto A10, B10, B10 Plus, C1 and C1 Plus lights.

When it comes to smartphone compatibility, though, it’s a little bit limited at the moment, only working with a range of Samsung Android devices. But, remember this is just a beta version, so I think we can expect the functionality to expand to other devices over the coming months. Here’s a video from its initial launch for iOS.

Profoto has today announced AirX, a new update for the Profoto App which lets your iPhone communicate with the Profoto B10 series strobes. It synchronizes over Bluetooth and Profoto says it’ll let you “sync the full power of the flash tube” all the way up to 1/25,000th of a second.

At the moment, the feature only appears to be available for the iPhone. Whether or not that will change in the future is currently unknown.
