Serif has released Affinity Photo 2 with a slew of non-destructive features for editing your photos

Serif has launched a new major version of Affinity Photo – its first since initially launching in 2016. Affinity Photo 2 introduces not only a massive amount of new features to the application but is also part of a whole Affinity Creative Suite, similar to Adobe’s Creative Cloud, incorporating multiple applications. Probably the biggest difference between Affinity and Creative Cloud, though, is that this is still a one-off purchase with no subscription.

The first hint that something new was coming was five days ago when a teaser video hosted by Serif Managing Director, Ashley Hewson was posted to the Affinity YouTube channel. This was followed up today by the announcement video below. Affinity Photo 2 finally brings much-demanded features like non-destructive raw development, live and compound masks, and saved layer states.

Affinity Photo gets a 10x faster turbo charge with latest 1.10 update

Serif has released version 1.10 of their Affinity products, including Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher, all of which come with some pretty supercharged performance over the previous version. Rather than just focusing on adding new features, the new update focuses on getting the existing features working as quickly as possible for a smoother and more real-time experience.

This update represents a complete rewrite of the software’s memory management that allows the software to work much faster across all platforms including Intel and M1-based Macs, Windows and iPad. As well as speed improvements, Serif says the software can now also work with much larger documents, including ones with hundreds of thousands of layers.

Mac owners have had the opportunity to make use of applications Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer for almost a year now, but that the software has only been available for the Mac has been a frustration for Windows based photographers stuck in the Adobe world with no real viable alternative.

Now, that’s all about to change, with Serif’s announcement today that Affinity Photo and Designer applications are coming to Windows.
