Hacking Photography - one Picture at a time
Gatorade has released a commercial that features an animated 3D man made of water. Nothing special, you may think. But the man was literally made of water, without the use of CGI.
The “waterman” is running, jumping and kicking, making you wonder “what if your water was as active as you.” They have also released a short BTS video, showing just how much effort they have invested in making this fantastic advertisement.
Today, we see plenty of awesome timelapse videos created with still cameras. Sometimes they are even made from screenshots. But twenty years ago, they weren’t very common. In 1997, Alastair Thain filmed a commercial for Nikon F5, “technically the quickest camera in the world”. And to prove it really was the quickest, he created a timelapse using precisely this still camera. The results are pretty cool, both in terms of the quality and the mood of the commercial.
German student director Eugen Merher has produced a commercial which really shows the pros how it’s done. Without the fancy CG and special effects of most modern sports commercials, Eugen tells a beautiful story.
A former marathon runner, stuck in a retirement home. After finding a pair of old running shoes, he starts to run once again. He attempts to “break free” (the title of the short film) a number of times, but each time his indoor run is cut short. There’s a twist in the ending, though.
When one thinks of coffee creamer, the first thing that comes to mind probably isn’t amazing photography. Until now. When Jeffrey Vanhoutte and his advertising agency, Norvell Jefferson, was contacted by Friesland Campina Kievit to create photographs for an upcoming ad campaign, Vanhoutte took the powdered milk and beautifully incorporated it into his idea for the shoot.
In the series of photographs, Vanhoutte is able to freeze time as an ever-so-elegant dancer performs stunning movements amidst powdery explosions of creamer. Vanhoutte and his team used a studio full of lighting in conjunction with high speed cameras to film the entire process.[Read More…]
There was a graphic released by Fuji this past weekend that many of you may have seen by now. It’s a clever little play on the famous “March of Progress” painting we all probably have pop into our heads when we think of evolution; this time, however, the painting depicts an evolution from using SLR cameras to going mirrorless.
Without trying to sound like I can’t take a joke (because that’s what this graphic ultimately is), I wanted to add my own comment on this image. I’ve said before, myself, that mirrorless is likely going to become the next standard for the world of photography; my Chrome browser’s spell check isn’t recognizing the word “mirrorless” right now, but it soon will be. That being said, I think Fuji’s latest advertisement is completely missing any point it’s trying to make.
